Hey, I'm back.

What happened to Gamespot?

I've had a softspot in my heart for GS and it's forums for many a year. I took a break from gaming/forums for a while and I come back and it's like a ghost town.

Why don't you use GS forums more?

What would bring you back here?

What can GS do to make things better or more engaging?

What do the forums you use have that GS doesn't?

Just things I'm wondering

Forums in general are dying thanks to the rise of social media and all that shit. I used to balance both but I pretty much have gotten rid of all my social media accounts throughout the past few years and mostly post here. I don't think I'll join another forum if this one goes. I'm tired of accounts, usernames, passwords, shit piling in my email. Are you gonna go for your mod status Klunt? Make Gamespot great again.

These forums were.starting to die when I joined, and have gotten quieter ever since, I have no idea why I still come here, or why I was.here in the first place.

Yeah, I tried my hardest to get changes made back in 2016. I had loads of Ideas, ways forward. I had a massive thread in the feedback board where we were TCOB (taking care of business), I did enact some change but I don't think it was enough.

I don't think I can be a Mod again seeing as I have 12 posts now, lol. I'd be open to it though, maybe. I like the idea of getting GS back to it's pre Jeff Firing Heyday. ( That was a dark time for the forums)

I blame Breitbart, they ruined the gaming community.

With the advent of Reddit and things of that nature dedicated site forums seem to make less sense. Especially with the advent of things like discord. Part of this discord https://discord.gg/Czk2afXudt that is made up of some former members from around 8-12 years back

Why don't you use GS forums more?

What would bring you back here?

What can GS do to make things better or more engaging?

What do the forums you use have that GS doesn't?

Just things I'm wondering

Let me tell you a tale of a Gamespot long ago...

Where Gamespot staff were beloved by the community, reviews were respected even amongst the most critical of readers, the video reviews flowed with real impressions and tales of the heart, and the forums, oh, they were abuzz with the energy of a 1000 suns.

Ah, the forums. Where Gamespot had a levelling system and your level was a badge of honor revered by your comrades. Where the Gamefaqs forums were linked to Gamespot, and all could take part in discussions and debates of the pre-HD era. Oh, take part we did.

Where single game forums would roar with discussion. A time such where the Twilight Princess forum was riddled with discussions every few minutes discussing and debating a game that had only shown a single piece of artwork. She, was not the only game full of wonderment in the forums. Oh...no...she was not.

A time where the reddits, instagrams, twitters, and other forums were non-existent and of the gaming world, Gamespot was it's Olympus.

And then one dark day, our staff fell. First, the man known as Greg Kasavin joined a developing company. Then the man known as Gerstmann was fired for refusing to give a good score to a sponsored game, he left with his Honor in tact and the only glaring spot on his record, an 8.9 for Twilight Princess. With him left many... Alex Navarro, Ryan Davis (may he rest in peace), and so many more.

Soon our levels were taken from us, "freelancers" became all too common, and the once mighty Gamespot, became a pawn of a media empire.

For all the tribulations of this once shining beacon, I still come back, and have done so for 18 years. Not as much as these days, but ay, I do. Forums are still beautiful even amongst the social media titans. And until Gamespot goes off into that sunset, I will roam these lands.

I am a bit concerned that Red Ventures will end up shutting the boards down. They already closed CNET comment sections at the end of last year.

I only come here to use the forums and the Stacks feature to keep track of what's on my backlog for the most part.

My only real news source for gaming is YouTube.

Seeing as I'm only a new member, it would be sad to see these forums shut up shop but that's just the reality. Forums are dying. As for Reddit, not interested in it. The layout is really unappealing to me...everything looks clustered together.

I personally dislike discord unless it's with a small, focused group otherwise it gets way too chaotic, especially where you are trying to organize different topics with sub topics. I prefer forums and stickies!

But I also don't want to live chat with mass people on the internet.

It offers chatrooms, voice and text.

I like coming here for my gaming news and even some discussion on politics. It would be nice to see it a bit busier though, but social media has ruined most forums now.

They're dead already. This forum used to be so active threads went to the second page before the day was up. Now they sit for weeks.

Better front page content to discuss would help bring in more users. It's like the same story stays up at the top for days. Also the way the news is organized is weird. Stories keep getting bumped up and, chronologically, it's a mess.

They're mixing in TV and Hollywood gossip in with video games too, who cares?

They also keep splitting up the video/written form of the same story, why not have it all in the same article so all the discussions can take place in one article?

And there's a lot of guides getting posted to the front page, but the guides are all discrete examples of how to do one thing. Instead there should be an index with all of those things listed and if something new gets posted then just say the main guide got updated instead of splitting all that up.

If things were organized better than maybe it would make things easier for the users to discuss.

Reddit is alright if you can find the subs that aren't just a bunch of dipshits posting memes.
