WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Communications Commission voted along party lines on Thursday to repeal landmark 2015 rules aimed at ensuring a free and open internet, setting up a court fight over a move that could recast the digital landscape.

It has passed, the days of the open internet are gone. It means all this gaming we have purchased is all gonna cost mega more $$ to be online playing, and to even play games. . Youtube, Pandora, ect, Netflix, all will cost you mega $$. Oh yeah, the list goes on, and on. Its time to move on to gaming the old school way, and screw the internet connected games i say. FM Radios where are you ? Lol ..

So... Now we go from the age of information, to the age of misinformation?

ISP are now arguably the most powerful when it comes to censoring the internet.

Yep, they will slow down our favorite sites so we have to pay top $$$ to visit the sites at full stream like we like it. Messed up.

European here so I hope I am not affected that much.

One thing is all the ISPs will be open about, another is all the crap they can now do legally but do not tell anyone.

Yes but you have to understand the events that led to net neutrality being implemented. It wont be the same as before like people try to suggest.

I agree that its a bad thing, I am just saying it doesnt rise to the level of finding a razer blade, just pretend like its 2014, and we can get it back in on 2020

I don't know if it will affect Australia because we flip-flop between all the regions, PSN was in Europe, now its Oceanic, Steam was US, now its Oceanic.

At other times, we still compete in European events.

I think he meant that as "thank god there are now lawsuits that will hopefully block this from actually going into effect for a long time and/or possibly reverse it" as opposed to sarcastically "thank god for internet users who think they are lawyers to tell us how it is".

Well, this is what Americans voted for.

As for those of us outside of America, I don't think it would affect us much.

On a related note:

Two million identities stolen for fake net neutrality comments

This gave a boost to those opposing net neutrality.

There's also this:

FCC Says It Will Vote On Net Neutrality Despite Millions Of Fake Public Comments

"FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel says half a million of the fake comments originated from Russian email addresses."

How long would it take for an ISP to come up with a new contract?

This is a nice link where you can check your connection somewhat in the USA to catch ISPs if they start throttling: https://www.battleforthenet.com/internethealthtest/

It will be better in the long run as it will drive everyone onto vpns and the deep web. The more people using these things the faster they will be and the internet will truly be free and untouchable then.

Assuming the bottom country is from somewhere in the Indian subcontinent, that part of the world is full of "evil, greedy" corporations.

Yeah, that's the reason there are houses, cars, roads and clothing instead of straw huts, camels and loincloths.

If capitalism offers us the choice of getting screwed over by evil greedy corps or getting exploited by evil greedy corps then... that doesn't sound like a great system. I don't think those countries getting exploited by us are thriving. Not that I know what would work better. It's just that this one works pretty poorly.

Especially as time goes by and these megacorporations grow in power. USA is practically governed by corporations now, let alone 20 years from now if they can keep going.

Right, let's go back to the time we were all equal. Remember that time? You know, when we all had a life expectancy of 30 years, could die from contracting any disease as there were no evil greedy corps to give us evil vaccines and medicines, suffered from any adverse weather condition as we didn't have architects, carpenters or masons, we all had to spend the entirety of our days hunting wild animals for meat or scavenging what little fruit there was before the evil greedy corps started using GMOs and selective reproduction, and we didn't have these diabolic contraptions like television, PCs or smartphone to make evil greedy corps rich and brainwash people.

The idea of not having "evil greedy corps" just grows more appealing by the second.
