I would say feudal Japan. 1400-1860. Or same era but in China. Back when the culture was rich and pure. Granted it was a cut throat world I love how much of the worlds greatest modern medicines, martial arts, and arcitecture. spawned from stuff that has been around for hundreds and thousands of years in these areas of the world but are never recognized main stream because of the bizzare and estranged outlook on their society or governments.

That or medival Europe. To watch from a distance. What an awkward time, of the Churches iron fist and control over the people and forcing uneducation on anything less than a noble to keep their nations in check :P its a silly but same interesting and rich time period where the espescially hyper religious caucasian forever stained the history books with its humiliating wrong doings.

So yeah... whether you read this or not express your favorite historical time periods, how you would go about living and or observing them if you could dive into your history books.

roman history is my favourite especially the fall of the republic (100BC-30BC), i also like the europe's conquests of america, the spanish conquistadores were probably some the greatest soldiers of all time, the fall of rome is also an interesting and turning point in history. im only really interested in military history though, i don't really care about what food peasants ate or what their clothes were made of

The French Revolution before, during, and after. People being beheaded, The bourgeoisie oppressing the proletariats, the "middle" class standing up against the corrupt system, and a bunch of other awesome stuff.

Victorian England and the colonization and civilization of the world.

Take up the White Man's burden--
Send forth the best ye breed--
Go bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives' need;
To wait in heavy harness,
On fluttered folk and wild--
Your new-caught, sullen peoples,
Half-devil and half-child.

Take up the White Man's burden--
In patience to abide,
To veil the threat of terror
And check the show of pride;
By open speech and simple,
An hundred times made plain
To seek another's profit,
And work another's gain.

Take up the White Man's burden--
The savage wars of peace--
Fill full the mouth of Famine
And bid the sickness cease;
And when your goal is nearest
The end for others sought,
Watch sloth and heathen Folly
Bring all your hopes to nought.

Take up the White Man's burden--
No tawdry rule of kings,
But toil of serf and sweeper--
The tale of common things.
The ports ye shall not enter,
The roads ye shall not tread,
Go mark them with your living,
And mark them with your dead.

Take up the White Man's burden--
And reap his old reward:
The blame of those ye better,
The hate of those ye guard--
The cry of hosts ye humour
(Ah, slowly!) toward the light:--
"Why brought he us from bondage,
Our loved Egyptian night?"

Take up the White Man's burden--
Ye dare not stoop to less--
Nor call too loud on Freedom
To cloke your weariness;
By all ye cry or whisper,
By all ye leave or do,
The silent, sullen peoples
Shall weigh your gods and you.

Take up the White Man's burden--
Have done with childish days--
The lightly proferred laurel,
The easy, ungrudged praise.
Comes now, to search your manhood
Through all the thankless years
Cold, edged with dear-bought wisdom,
The judgment of your peers!

Because you were born in 1990, thus since anything before that "doesn't really affect you," you "don't really care about history."

See where my previous comment came from?

Lady Gaga > Brahms ;) Anyway, It's hard for me to choose. Late Roman Republic? The 17th century? The Enlightenment? The Mid 19th century Romantic Era?

United States Civil War era. I've always been intrigued by that time period for some reason. I can't really explain why.

I really only like history after the creation of steam power.

Victorian Era & Industrial Revolution in Britain. I love images of the foggy streets and mysteries such as the Jack the Ripper case.

Early 1900's Immigration to the Americas.

The last ruling of the Tsars and the Kaisers

British adventurism in Africa, India and the rest of Asia

World War I

The Russian Revolution

The Great Depression

World War 2

Italian Gang Life 1920's-1970's

Vietnam Era, both war and homefront

The 80's and 90's America, and birth of modern technology.

I basically am interested in anything from 1880-1999. Both of the World Wars are most likely my favorite pieces of history however. While they were a grim time for humanity, they also were a time of cooperation rarely seen between a majority of the world. Also, they're one of the few events that effected everyone at the time.

The Enlightenment. Voltaire, Rousseau, the rise of intellectualism, the fall of theocracy, the rise of intellectual centers such as salons, and the rise of democracy.

Tibet was never as great as people remember it. there was a time when its people went to war. I would love, however, to look upon an unmolested Black Forest, or the Appalachian Mountains free of human civilization. New England with its glorious huge trees murdered for ships' masts. Europe with its old, strong forests still there. I also relate to the 1970s a lot.

Because before the 20th century peoples lifespan was about 30 years and often died from what we now consider minor diseases also hunger and high crime rates
