Facebook is refusing to take down graphic and completely uncensored videos of ISIS cutting off prisoners head. I reported the video which showed a guy getting his neck sliced and then his bloody head tossed on top of his body.

"We reviewed the share you reported for containing graphic violence and found it doesn't violate our Community Standards"

REALLY?!?!?!? WHAT THE **** FACEBOOK?!? And Gawker for even posting such fucking trash. Disgusting...

I don't know. It sounds like a mistake. I can't really comment unless I see the video myself. I know when I was a mod, sometimes I accidentally hit the wrong button which meant a report when inactioned. Seems a bit presumptuous, though, to think that an inactioned report means that the entire company is in support of ISIS...

EDIT: I just checked their page, and didn't see them actually post the video, just a link to the story which had a link to the YouTube video which has since been removed. Did you report the actual video or the shared link to the story that contained the video?

It's freedom of information. Posting graphic content does not mean supporting what they're reporting. The beauty of a video containing graphic content means you don't have to press the play button. So, you reported the story. Guess what? There was nothing wrong with what they shared. Had Gawker posted the video themselves, it would have auto-played for some people making it a different matter. So, I agree with FB for not actioning your report. Guess I support ISIS now.

Of course it does. They're advertising for ISIS free of charge and promoted their violence.

The ethics of Gawker's reporting can be brought up. Many will say they shouldn't have included the video, but like I said before, people need not watch it. They didn't post any pictures of graphic content, so it's not like they posted something that couldn't be avoided. There are, however, people moved into action when seeing such brutality. How moved were we on the day of 9/11 when every news station had footage of the towers falling on infinite loop?

Regardless, the assumption that Gawker, and in association with Facebook inactioning the report of its shared story, is a support of ISIS is outlandish.

Well , it all depends what kind of ethics you chooses to follow.

I can't see how you can explain that a beheading is on the internet, for everyone to see. Imagine how family and friends must feel. Imagine your brother is beheaded and they put it all over the internet. IT also stays on the internet, the internet never forgets.

I know the usa has different privacy laws , but here in europe we think that is wrong.

I don't know all of Facebook's policies, but even if we assume that Facebook didn't consider a beheading video violent enough, I'm almost certain that their policies prohibit promoting illegal activity. No government on the planet sanctions the actions of ISIS so that probably means by allowing their video to be posted they are allowing an actual murder to be promoted on their website.

Or maybe you should have just reported it as fat shaming to get it taken down, that's how some of Maria Kang's stuff got pulled off of Facebook...

Except it wasn't the actual video he reported. He only reported the link to the story that had a link to the YouTube video, which has since been taken down. He didn't include that in his original post, and that's most likely why FB inactioned his report.

None of it should be censored really, people should have the right to see it and people should see the bad things in the world.

We cant just sugar coat everything and hide everything ugly in the world. These are real things and social things in humanity. Humanity isnt beautiful and neither should we pretend it is.

(tho i've seen just as bad or worse things in facebook anyways)

Not no censorship no where at no time or reason.

But shit needs to be kept real. Sometimes so society needs to go through or see some shit to get their shit together.

Not wanting censorship =/= maturity. You're insinuating he's 12. Are you 12? In fact, the less censorship you allow, the more mature you need to be in order to handle the content of which you're exposed to. Censorship is an extremely slippery slope, because once you start, new precedents can continue to be made. If we are not careful, then no bad news of any kind can be reported, and we become literal ostriches with our heads in the ground.

A local school district in Colorado, Jefferson County, is actually trying to restrict the negative sides of history from being taught in their schools. They are afraid that by illustrating and highlighting the ugly moments in history, it will cause some kind of civil unrest in our youth as they grow older. But history needs to be taught with no slants on stance, because by omitting pieces, you do not fully understand the puzzle. Your comprehension of past events is hampered because you aren't knowledgeable of what caused those events to transpire.

I work in a library where we constantly fight censorship. Ideas are what move society, and there are people who dislike certain ideas some books present, so they do their best to try to get those books banned. We just had Banned Book Week not too long ago, where we promoted being allowed to think freely. We have to govern ourselves first and foremost, because once we let a government tell us what to think, what we are allowed and not allowed to be exposed to, we give up our greatest right: freedom. You may say it's wrong to post a video of a beheading on the Internet, but that isn't your call. People should exercise their freedom to decide whether it's right or wrong for themselves.

I screwed up when I typed that post since I typed it like the actual video was on Facebook even though I read that it was series of links to the video. Either way, it's pretty much the same concept. If somebody posted a link to a website that had another link to a page that was hosting child porn I doubt the fact that you had to go through two links to get to it would stop Facebook from pulling the original post since it is illegal material.

At the same time, I do wonder who actually checks reports on Facebook. A few weeks ago I reported comment with a link to a porn video that somebody put in the comments section of a post, with the thumbnail for the video clearly showing a woman's breasts. The following day I received an e-mail stating that the comment was reviewed and was found not in violation of their policy against posting sexually explicit material.

you're both morons, some stuff needs to be censored for obvious reasons, child pornography is one of them

The same with terrorist propaganda, or media that is a violation of privacy (when there's no public need to publish) May be not that obvious to you, but it's still wrong. Rules are made for a reason, some things just need to be forbidden to protect civilians.

If you can't get that, then yeah, you have the mental capacity of a 12 year old

Did you even bother clicking the link they sent you? This is what FB community standards says about graphical content.

"Facebook has long been a place where people turn to share their experiences and raise awareness about issues important to them. Sometimes, those experiences and issues involve graphic content that is of public interest or concern, such as human rights abuses or acts of terrorism. In many instances, when people share this type of content, it is to condemn it. However, graphic images shared for sadistic effect or to celebrate or glorify violence have no place on our site."

So it wasn't that they didn't find it to be graphical, but that they didn't find it was posted to glorify violence, which I believe. I also think that if the post you reported was in any way misleading and you thought you were going to watch a preview for My Little Pony and ended up at that video, they would have removed it.

So because they allow a video of a beheading, they support the actions in the video.

Yes. They are promoting the actions of ISIS and doing exactly what ISIS wants which is Americans to see the video. ISIS wants people to see the videos and Facebook gladly obliges for them. Now ISIS just sits back and laughs at the reactions Americans and starts on their next video. Maybe if Facebook didn't show everyone the videos they'd stop making the videos.

I'm sorry you don't understand logic. Stay in school.

There doesn't need to be a camera rolling for someone to get their head lopped off. If you think censorship is the best way of taking down terrorism, then you are part of the problem. The truth is that the video means very little. You're trying to get something taken down just because it offends you. The news is real. It happened. Raising awareness is not the same as promoting something and you need to understand that. What you're doing now is advocating the needless restriction of the media and trying to cultivate an environment in which atrocities such as this are met with little to no reaction.

And you called me fucking stupid? Where did I ever say that? We're talking about beheading videos. And censorship =/= doing what terrorists want. The news can talk about it all they want but there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON to show vile videos of necks being sliced which is exactly what ISIS wants. That is so fucking disrespectful to their families among other things. Maybe if it was your mom or dads head you'd feel differently and then you'd be BEGGING for "censorship".

I got a chuckle out of some dude who has a fetish for watching suffering is misguided into thinking that facebook or gawker is their parent and should shield him from his own rather shameful curiosity. I bet you slow down when you see a car wreck and try and gawk in attempt to see some blood.

Next time help your own morally broken self and don't watch the entire video.

Only censorship Facebook/Gawker/Google/whoever should do is ban the accounts that ISIS make to promote themselves.

Such silly words are best left for your parents when you get caught looking at snuff or something.

The very moment you saw his neck getting cut you could of closed it. You didn't by your own words. You watched his neck get cut and kept watching until it was all said and done. Again. You watched the entire thing even after the gruesome killing had just started.

Maybe you should censor your own mind since you're lashing out for the world to do it for you.

@CreasianDevaili: Grow up dude. Also try moving out of your parents house sometime soon like I did years ago.

You're the one who needs to grow up. Your going around insulting everyone who doesn't agree with you. Honestly, you're just trolling at this point.

@JustPlainLucas: A troll calling someone else a troll. Brilliant, I haven't seen that before. Go find a different thread to shit up instead of spewing dumb assumptions here.

I never saw the entire video. I turned it off as soon as I saw the guys neck getting sliced and then I read through the comments to see what people thought. Now go to bed before your parents yell at you, it's past your bedtime.

It isn't a troll. I truly think that you're the same ilk that gawk at road accidents hoping to see a dead body. That and the way you've responded says it all.

Not my damn fault you played peekaboo at a beheading video.

This is a wrong way to address this issue.
