Nostalgia: a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life, to one's home or homeland, or to one's family and friends; a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time: a nostalgia for his college days. Depression is a part of nostalgia; otherwise, it's just a memory or reminiscing.

I think I knwo what you are getting at. I think (to me anyway) there is a certain sadness about nostolgia. I don't know if I'd call it depressing, but there is a sense of "missing" the past, sort of like missing a friend that you haven't seen in a long time. It's "bitter-sweet" I guess.....?

Dude, I kind of feel the same way. I sometimes long for those days, when I was a kid with no responsiblities, less stress, it was all about having fun.

Yeah I can see the "missing" part. When I listen to ATB's-Missing song, it reminds me of the past.

I kinda/sorta think that is part of the reason we feel nostalgic from time to time. It helps us remember good parts of our past/childhood so we may emulate that when we have children of our own. Our kid is due later this year, and I'm already daydreaming about recreating (sort of) many good times from my childhood for him or her.

hopefully he/she will be into the same things. you can probably condition him/her to help with that :P

:) Well, I figure I can just set up certain things (ways of celebrating things, stuff like that) and the Little One will view it however he/she does. I'm sure my brothers and sisters took different things from our childhood than I did.

For me, it's like I'm caught up in a brief moment of bliss, before I crash back into reality.

Yes, I can attest to that. You think about the past, it makes you happy, and then you get back to the present and realize how sucky it is.

i can get that way yes. although i think it depends really on what it is. sometimes when i look at what i grew up watching and compare it to today's vapid cartoons, it makes me feel kinda sad that what i liked growing up is a thing of the past. it also makes me feel old.

Yeah, especially when I remember things where I could've done something, but didn't and now the chance is long gone.

Well yes………. if you're depressed in the first place that is. If you come over all misty eyed because of yearning for a time when life was easier/simpler/happier/etc then of course it's going to be a pretty flat experience. Then again everything's depressing when you're depressed. Even when presented with the most positive news you can find a cloud somewhere in amongst that silver lining.

Sometimes if I hear a song from a Disney movie that I used to watch as a kid, I feel a little depressed.
