[QUOTE="SolidSnake35"]That will be productive in the working environment.00-Riddick-00I was thinking the same thing
Great minds think alike.
Seems to be the real deal to me I've tried to reach the egypt information portalit just says Safari or Internet Explorer can't reach it. Ok I understand I could of put anything in that link but I got that from using Wikipedia, typing Egypt and looking under sources and chosing "Egypt Information portal". Try it yourself.
The US government couldn't shut down the internet... They have almost no control over the ISP's...jeremiah06The Department of Homeland Security says otherwise.

Edit: Also I said "almost no control"

Yeah, that's the part I disagreed with.A controversial bill handing President Obama power over privately owned computer systems during a "national cyberemergency," and prohibiting any review by the court system, will return this year.

Yeah, that's the part I disagreed with. So you really believe the US could just shutdown the internet?[QUOTE="ColonelWilks"][QUOTE="jeremiah06"] Sure... So you really believe the US could just shutdown the internet? No, I disagreed with "almost no control." But they are trying to pass the kill switch bill...[QUOTE="jeremiah06"][QUOTE="ColonelWilks"] Yeah, that's the part I disagreed with.ColonelWilks
The article clearly states that shutting down America's internet access in its entirety is close to impossible. In the event of a "internet attack" America would simply block access from the place of origin the attack manifested from, rather than unilaterally cut all in-country access.
So you really believe the US could just shutdown the internet? No, I disagreed with "almost no control." I think they have SOME control...[QUOTE="jeremiah06"][QUOTE="ColonelWilks"] Yeah, that's the part I disagreed with.ColonelWilks
Unlikely. US Internet providers wouldn't agree and the government does not own any ISP's.the_ChEeSe_mAn2not to mention the recent state of the union speech said we were going push for more people to have access to high speed internet.
"What would you do without Internet? They may take our lives but they will never take..... our INTERNET! "

Neither of which matters. The government doesn't need to own the ISPs. They still have the power through law to mandate regulations that will effectively provide them a kill switch. The reason the government can't *totally* turn off all Internet access is the same reason the Egyptian government couldn't - there will always be holes that a select few can use. However, it would still be possible to effectively shut down 99% of the Internet for most civilians. There are only a handful of choke-points across the country as it is.
"Experts say it's unlikely that what's happened in Egypt could happen in the United States because the U.S. has numerous Internet providers and ways of connecting to the Internet. Coordinating a simultaneous shutdown would be a massive undertaking."

Also, what use would the U.S. have for taking down the internet when its their biggest method of control?

It keeps them in check in certain ways.
