I'm looking for some Doom Metal at the moment because I heard that it is heavily influenced by Black Sabbath. So I'm after some Doom Metal bands with (preferably) clean vocals.

stinking lizaveta (no vocals) is awesome. for a modern rip off (read: homage) of sabbath, check out electric wizard. i wouldnt call the vocals clean, but they arent particularly abrasive.

Draconian and early Lacrimas Profundere (everything from the Burning: a wish album and backwards, they're not Doom or even really good after that point) are the only ones I know, they both have growling, but they're really good.

Atmanix

Doom Metal is very slow, often simplistic, and extremely distorted. Its not always simplistic(Candlemass, for example), but it generally is an easier to play form of music.

Death Metal is characterized by blast beats, death growls, and driving guitars.

Heavy Metal is a blanket term.

Gotcha. What would Sons of Posiedon (sp) or Soulfly be considered? I heard them both live once before a Crystal Method show.

They're apparently not on metal archives, so they're probably not metal influenced enough for most of us to know about them.

EDIT: after listening to some Soulfly, they run along the lines of nu-metal, which isn't heavily recognized by the metal scene as it's really a branch of grunge and punk than anything else.

I am not familiar with Sons of Posiedon, but Soulfly is Nu-Metal with a little thrash left over from Max's Sepultura days.

No one mentioned the more traditional doom band. The ones closer to Black Sabbath. I.e.: Pentagram, Saint Vitus, Trouble, Witchfinder General.
