I've gone 17 years without cavities and at my recent dentist appointment I had two. I'm going to get them filled in about an hour and a half and I'm kind of nervous. How are they?

I havent had a tooth filled since I was a little kid. If I remember right...they gave me a shot to numb it and after that I didnt feel a thing. The shot hurt though.

it doesn't hurt, but the teeth getting filled will feel weird for a couple of days, whenever you bite something.

Alright...depends how deep they are...If they aren't too deep...it is very uncomfortable...if they are deep...I would hold your hand if I could...I have had two deep ones...I couldn't have hot hot or cold cold food for almost a year...

It's no big deal. Root canals aren't too bad either.

Oho, Mr TC.

You are about to experience unimaginably excruciating pain. May the Lord have mercy upon your soul; only 1 in 5 people survive this procedure.

you're not getting a root canal, therefore you should be jumping up and down in joy.

As long as you arent a wuss about it like I see some people on here are. Heres how itll go, you'll get the novocaine shot (no it doesn't hurt it feels like a little pinch thats all) and then in 10-15 minutes you wont be able to feel anything on that side of your mouth. Then they fill it and its all over it's like 20 minutes topps altogether. The only thing is your mouth will be numb for a few hours afterward so thats weird but shouldnt hinder you in any way.

The filling doesn't but the drilling on the tooth to open it up so the filling can be inserted does. even if they drug you you'll feel something.

Depends on the dentist. Mine is very liberal with numbing you. So the only thing I feel is the initial shot of whatever he uses to numb my mouth (even then he first numbs the area a little with some swab).

well first they put some sort of jelly to numb the spot they are going to give you the shot at and then they give u a shot and then they atart the drilling. so over all it wont hurt unless they dont numb u :)

Jelly? They just straight up gave me a shot without any jelly being involved. But I got mine back in the 80s when I was just a little kid, so they probably do it different now.

Novacaine or not, drilling hurts. It might be just me but whenever there's a drill on my tooth, I end up focusing on the high-pitched shriek the drills makes as it grinds away and it makes me insane for the next 15 minutes. At first, it doesn't hurt, but after 30 seconds the shriek gets worse and then it turns into pain.

Yes. Oh, god yes!

I had a cavity filled without novacaine and it was pure hell. Of course, this was when I was a kid and I'm probably being a little dramatic. Still, I'd op for whatever the dentist can give you.

It might depend on how deep it is.

I had a really small one and it took about 10 minutes. The place where they filled it feels a bit odd when you're eating, but it returns to normal after a few days.

I had a filling at the beginning of my summer break. (the first cavity I ever got in my whole life, too!)

Though It was pretty good for me. they numbed me up first with some of that jelly, and I felt no pain at all the whole time. Sure, I felt the drill and everything they were using, but I never felt pain. If you are like me, the whole thing should go by smoothly.

Looks like you already got it, but it doesnt hurt unless they dont hit the nerve with the novacaine, in which case itll be one of the worst pains of your life.

Speaking as somebody who has had multiple root canals it's not a big deal and you should not feel a thing. If you do and the dentist can't seem to accommodate your comfort level then you should leave that dentist immediately and find a competent one.

It hurt :?

Although I didn't have an injection.

Having said that, it didn't hurt that much. Hardly unbearable.

Dude. I've had my share of cavities. At the end, I asked them for no novacaine. It's far better. A bit of pain to avoid a slackened face.

What is this 'novacaine' that everyone is talking about, anyway?

They stick you with a needle (or three) and your face goes all numb and you can't drink water correctly for hours. Generally affects 1/4-1/2 of your face.
