I've got a paper dude tomorrow that requires this and a hard copy. Ugh, FML.

I don't find turnitin.com a problem at all because I don't plagiarize. Nerd_ManNeither do I. But a friend of mine was saying that even if you don't, it still comes up as you did, which I am afraid of.
It's somewhat frightening when I turn something in there b/c plagiarism comes with strict consequences.:(
Nothing has happened to me though. :)

But a friend of mine was saying that even if you don't, it still comes up as you did, which I am afraid of. It does, simply because some words and phrases show up all over the place. Your teacher will give leeway on that (in my experience it's usually thirty percent; if turnitin comes up with more than that then it's perfectly reasonable to assume that you plagiarized at some point) and turnitin gives leeway as well.
Never heard of it, whats it about?xTheExploitedIt's a program that you run a paper through. It'll scan the paper and see what matches any documents to see if you plagiarized on it. It gives you a percentage of how much they think you plagiarized, with margin of error and they highlight words and phrases and sentences they believe was copied. Teachers use it to catch cheating students.
I hate having to turn in a digital copy AND a physical copy (isn't the whole point of digital copies not having to waste paper on physical ones?) and sometimes I have trouble submitting things because the internet is being dumb, but overall it's not too much of a hassle.
I find it annoying, especially when the teacher puts the deadline at Midnight before the hard copy is due, especially since at the time I had Microsoft Works Word Processor which turnitin.com does'nt take as an attach file. But I never plagarize so I never really get all worried about it.
Just don't plagiarize.:| The only thing that bothers me is the fact that I have to turn in two copies of my paper. Just one more unnecessary thing to do.

But a friend of mine was saying that even if you don't, it still comes up as you did, which I am afraid of. Only if you don't cite properly, so, in short, cite properly or something? I've never had any problems with it - took like 10 or 15 minutes to set up my account and everything.
I had the proffessor who created turnitin for a class last year. He told us the grad student who helped him went on to make the company.
The only reason I can think of for why one would hate TurnItIn.com with a passion is if they had hoped to get away with plagiarism, so...
GabuEx
