Do you think superhero movies are a passing fad? Do you like most of them?

I think TC you're confusing the word "trend" with "fad". A fad is something short term, superhero movies begin dominating early this decade and almost 10 years later they are bigger than ever. It's a current movie trend.

Also, there are tons of artsy films being produced. The reality is, a lot of big blockbuster movies in the 2000's and 1990's were trash and superhero's are replacing them.

The "Western" is the first thing that came to mind when I read this title. So it's good to know Steven Spielberg also feels the same way.

The Western was big for a few decades, before eventually fading into obscurity. The same thing will likely happen to superhero movies. It's just a matter of when. The superhero boom could last for a whole generation before eventually fading away, as a new generation takes over. Like what happened with the Western.
