I used to, but I just realized that I had a poor foundation.
I spent a year going back over basic math and high school math,
And now I breeze through Calculus.
I think most people's problems with math arise from a poor foundation.

Advanced calculus is pretty nasty.
And yes, a good foundation is important, and isn't emphasized enough in schools. There are far too many students going to college who cannot do simple algebra.
Yeah, and those who did well in higher maths in high school, are now running into problems because of earlier gaps that snowballed.Advanced calculus is pretty nasty.

Math isn't difficult for me. I see patterns and repeating templates all up in it, so it's always came pretty easily to me.
This, LOL. I got 50/50 on my spelling final and 50/50 on my grammar final in 10th or 11th grade, but I was in this geometry concepts class, and I was getting a D and had to switch to a math skills class, which is very basic stuff. I think I got at least a B in that. I was jealous of all these Asian kids doing calculus and sh*t. :P Goddamn it. How do people do that crap?I'm great at other subjects, but I couldn't calculate my way out of a wet paper bag.

I think the reason why people find math hard is more because it's abstract and just playing with numbers.
Think about it, to be a business major, or to even properly function in everyday life you have to know some math. but how often are you going to need advanced calculus to solve a financial situation. i'm sure a math whiz can show me up, but it's a moot point, vast majority of people don't operate like that.
it's a little ironic but like when i was in college i did allright in pre-calc, calc 1, calc 2, not so great on calc 3 and 4 (higher level), did good on differential equations and statistics. and looking back the deciding factor for me is trying to relate those equations to real life applications.
math itself isn't that difficult when you fully understand all the rules. it just becomes tedious to do it and hard to grasp the concepts in meaningful way if it's just rules of a 'game' of sorts.
but then again that's why i studied engineering, utilizying math for application purposes. I leave the pure mathmatics to the mathmaticians.
so yeah, higher level maths are hard, for a couple of reasons.
Used to do horrible at it now i'm trying to relearn it everything including basic math it isn't so bad. Still find Algebra and above confusing but i'm sure i'll gain a grasp on it.
I think of myself as mathematically retarded, but I hypothesize this is more of a learned hopelessness than an actual mental deficiency (read: a dumbc*nt). When I study math, I become discouraged far too easily and thus lose interest in even trying. I'm thinking in the summer I'll review all of the mathematical concepts I've covered-- from grade school to high school-- to prepare myself for college-level math in the Fall.
Sometimes. I love math, but things like linear algebra and vector calculus can be pretty difficult.ghoklebutterWhy is linear algebra hard? It seems pretty easy I mean isn't it all just dealing with y=mx+b and adding a bunch of them together or something... After just a really quick google search it look,s like you work with dimensions as well so I don't know. I've only taken calculus, but I may double major in computer science and they make you take linear algebra after calculus 2 and discrete mathematics... Once I saw that I knew something had to be difficult a about it but don't have any idea why. Stupid question, I know.

Today was supposed to study but since its my day off, I went to skyrim :/
Pure math is not so hard. Applied math is tricky.lo_Pine
Analysis and proof-writing (the "pure math" courses) are incredibly difficult. Either you have a very sharp, analytical mind, or you do very poorly. From my personal experience (as an engineering student), applied math can be very diffficult, but pure math can be just as difficult if not moreso.
Depends I guess. I aced advanced math in high school, did Cal 1, 2, 3, Linear Algebra, and several physics and economics courses in University and I did relatively well on them. I found that the more theoretical the courses became though, the more difficulty I had wrapping my head around them. Cal 3 and Linear Albebra (for engineers) specifically gave me a hard time. I would try to study for a test and I would just be looking at pages of equations that had little or no conection to the real world. It was very frustrating.
I used to have a difficult time till I started teaching myself.
Now it seems so easy, especially since I got back into computers... >.> they seem to go hand to hand with me.
Yes University mathematics is extremely hard. I'm talking about calculus (both single and multivariable), linear algebra, differential equations, fourier analysis, complex analysis and calculus of variations.
Yeah. I struggled a lot in Differential Equations. I think it was mostly because of the teacher now because looking back through the material it wasn't that hard. I would finally get the hang of stuff when doing homework and then going to class would just confuse me.
