Do you think it's true the older you get that you fall out of modern music?
I say for me it is I'm sure it has to be a generational thing most likely.

I have no idea. So far the more years have passed the more music I listen to. I listen to what's playing but I also go find more music myself.
I do too YouTube helps alot but it's not modern music it's most old stuff that I never discovered from back in the day.
Music about sex and drugs and murder will never be good music in my book. Any fool can write about that. The artists who actually have a story to tell that gives hope and encouragement to the listener, now that's an artist who is worth their pay. I don't necessarily think that you fall out of modern music, because there will still be those who have good messages to share in their music, but I also think it silly to think that modern music is bad to the older generations simply because they're older. Crap is crap regardless of when you were born.
Kind of, but no. I think it's more easily explained as the music you are into in your teens and 20s will be the music you kind of stick to. Which will eventually fade out of popularity. But then the same process repeats for the next group of teens of 20 year olds. I think it's a continual process.
You stay interested in the music that was modern for you during your youth. It's not that you "fall out" of modern music, but that it has moved on to another generation.
Not really. With an open mind one can easily recognize quality music and artists regardless of decade. Much of what is currently pushed on radio by "artists" is nothing more than bubblegum pop and manufactured "hits" and the overall reception has stayed steady.
I remember I used to love listening to all the pop punk bands of the 2000s during my teenage years. Sum 41, Blink 182, New Found Glory, My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, etc.
Now I look back at most of that stuff and just cringe at how whiny the lyrics are and how little to no talent goes into the actual music of those songs compared to most of the music of the 20th century. I've spread out and actually enjoy oldies, jazz, funk, classic rock, classic pop, and anything else that feels like the artists are actually trying hard to really make those instruments shine. And the lyrics didn't sound so shit many decades ago to me as well compared to whiny pop punk. Boy was I out of touch with good music for a long time growing up.
In some ways yes. Grew up listening to 90’s stuff in middle school and 2000’s rock/metal and rap in high school. Not crazy about most mainstream 2010’s music.
there's always the golden era of music from your youth, think it was chris rock who said you'll never not love music from the era when you first started having sex.
i used to dj every weekend for at least 10 years straight in my very distant youth, starting before i officially got to the age where could get into a club without fake id. still got several thousand records. so there was a time when i was listening to ridiculous amounts of music. listen to far less these days but always check out my discover weekly every friday from spotify which is generally a nice collection of 20-30 brand new tracks from genres i like. still lots of good stuff knocking about
