i work at a grocery store where they are all about equality and teamwork

i was hired under the title "service clerk"

service clerk - working front end of store which include bagging, pushing carts, light maintenance work, etc.

and so were other females

there are way more female than male

males are sent outside to push carts for up to 8 hours a day 2 (15 minute) breaks

while the females are kept inside in the AC'd store.

we are hired under the same title, receive the same pay, yet RARELY share the work

i am outside pushing carts in 90 degree weather and hardly get to work inside the store

Nothing wrong with that really.

Girls are more pretty/weak so they stay inside where they have to serve the customers.

Men aren't as pretty and they are stronger, so they go outside and push the carts around.

ah, sounds like youre a young gent that bought into the idea of a union.

Thats too bad...youre a clerk or whatever, you dont need a union realy.

but that is beside the point: you do your job because it is whats asked of you. If that means pushing carts, so be it. The ladies, well, theyre doing less than is required of them. Think of it that way.

Now, if they are called into the office to do "favors" for the boss and get a raise each time, then that is cause for lawsuit.

Maybe in a few years. But males tend to get the short end of the stick when it comes to employment laws.

Anyways, your job description encompasses pushing carts. It doesn't say all service clerks will push carts and it is generally understood that males would perform a physical job like that better than females.

So no, you have no case.

EDIT: I just saw you're in a union. If you really feel wronged by the current situation then you should file a complaint with them.

Now, every store that you work at is going to do that. I know of several around my area that do the exact same thing. The boys push the carts before the girls. Get over it. Generally males are tougher than females correct? Well, that would mean you could do the work longer, which would be better for the store.

So, get over it. If you don't like it quit.

honestly, its a cheap source of income for the Union. You get these young, impressionistic folks who think they need a union when they dont, so you get them to sign up and pay their dues (which they wont need), and then you peer pressure the smart ones into doing the same thing.

Dude I'd like to have that job, I don't even have a job. Go push those carts dude, maybe you'll get a promotion one of these days.

Maybe if you told the girls to come help too, and the boss was like no let the ladies stay inside in the AC because they are too dainty to push carts, you might have a case.
