I was reading about mental disorders, and I saw OCD. I once heard someone say everyone has a little OCD in them.

The best explanation of OCD I can give is... you get an unwanted bad thought, then anxiety follows, and only by doing a certain action repeatedly, does the anxiety go away. The repeated action has nothing to do with the unwanted thought.

I've also heard of different forms of OCD. For example, you might triple-check something repeatedly (irrationally), just to make the anxiety go away, the anxiety that what you checked is perfect. Only after checking specifically 3 times, does the anxiety finally go away.

OCD is like a form of perfectionism, where you have a strong feeling for the things you do to be done “just right." It compels perfection in everyday tasks.

Do you think everyone has a little OCD? I read it's common in children, and in young adults. Check out this article: https://www.wbur.org/commonhealth/2014/04/09/ocd-intrusive-thoughts

I think it's just a saying to describe people's quirksome habits. Actual OCD is a completely different world than, say, someone triple checking to make sure their coffee pot is turned off.

I believe everyone has tendencies, but not all have OCD.

By that logic everyone has a little bit of every personality disorder in the DSM 5. To be diagnosed with OCD you need to display significant impairment in functioning, having certain tendencies (as many do) is a different story.

I think I battle half the time with just bad habits that're hard to get myself out of. Most people are the same most likely. To consider someone with OCD though I think it'd need to be pretty noticeable compared to your regular person.

Sometimes I like to zip my jacket like Mr. Rogers.

When I read comic books I like to use the arrow keypads and scroll up and down while reading.

No and I never understood this obsession with classifying every little personal trait as a disease.

I have a feeling that some people like to do that because they think it'll mitigate their personal responsibility. Like, some dude might read up on anti-social personality disorder and say, "gee, that kind of sounds a little bit like me." Then he'll go around telling people that he has it in order to have an excuse to not give a crap about people. Instead of "I just don't give a crap about you guys because I'm actually a jerk", he tries to make into, "hey, I can't help acting that way! It's not my fault!"

I'm obviously not trying to suggest that such diseases don't actually exist, but I think that at least in certain cases some people try to use such diseases as an excuse for their own behaviour. I tend to be especially suspicious when people start throwing around such conditions but then mention that at no point have they ever bothered to get a proper diagnosis.
