I started smoking at 19 out of a feeling of invincible youth and now I'm addicted many years later. I made a bad choice then, but despite any motivation I have for quitting it's a lot harder than just saying I'm going to quit smoking. I've made many attempts to quit but there's a lack of willpower problem when something is as addictive as cigarettes are.
Personally I feel they're basically going to need to outlaw it, or overtax it to the point nobody smokes. I'm fine with CVS's plan to stop selling cigarettes and well wish many others would follow, gas station chains, convenient stores, whatever. They sell them pretty much everywhere and getting rid of that might help me. Though, some might cry freedom issues. But it is difficult to maintain self control when it's in your face.
One solution I would think that if they checked IDs for everyone, and say people can get on their state drivers licenses a special indicator not to sell cigarettes to that person. After all an addict who really wants to quit can in their right mind get this ID enhancement, then when their biological drive is to consume more nicotine they're unable to purchase it.
