I saw this man slap his dog cause it kept barking,so do you approve of hitting dogs if they're acting up ?

Yes I'm fine with hitting animals, much like children, when appropriate although most of the time severe scolding and isolation gets the point across rather effectively.
i used to think it was wrong but im stuck with a chuhaha jack russle mix and i want to rip it's vocal cords out and it wont stop whineing for things it's like satan became a dog and wont leave me the hell alone i hate it
[QUOTE="Lord_Daemon"]Agreed my mom use to whip our assses and my dogs back in the day and now you're a bigot. good reason to not hit your kids or petsYes I'm fine with hitting animals, much like children, when appropriate although most of the time severe scolding and isolation gets the point across rather effectively.

You gotta do what ya gotta do.
As long as it isn't on an abusive level there is nothing wrong with a bit of a smack to let your dog know what they are doing is wrong.
No. Brute force is not a good way to teach an animal, or a kid for that matter, respect and ensuring that they won't act up again. People who manhandle animals should be locked away. Plus, positive reinforcement is a much, much stronger tool than fear. Aggression can be triggered by attacking an animal, resulting in severe injuries. I hope the man later got bitten in his ankle or calves for that, by his dog.Deihjan
Lolnope, negative reinforcement is necessary as well.

nah, i'm not okay with it. there are other, more effective ways to train dogs Novotine
Psychologists and scientists have gotten into our heads and convinced us that so many methods are better than a good stern pop or two. Have you ever been popped one or two good times for doing wrong?
If so, I guarantee you you wouldn't do it again. If you pop a dog and instruct them on the error of their act(on a dogs level of course), it is very effective.

Not an uncommon reaction and I don't know you so to me it matter less than usual, although from the severity of yours I'm assuming you're taking that usual physical punishment = adult level beat downs route as opposed to the light slaps to the nose or hindquarters that most folks who employ such methods typically use.
Since hitting dogs leads to agression, no. If a person's violent behavior has led to an agressive dog then that person should face the consequences too if that dog attacks someone later on.
If you physically abuse a dog, eventually it will turn on you or other people.
A sharp command is usually enough to subdue a misbehaving dog. If you just want a dog to behave, you need to show that you're the Alpha, ie, the leader of the pack.
But you should never kick a dog, or hit it anywhere near the face. You're just asking for a violent retaliation.

Really, because I remember kids who's parents would hit them and they were some of the worst behaved kids I'd seen.
I wouldn't do it and I don't look highly upon people who do. Besides, I'd rather not have a boxer turn on me because I've been cruel to him.
Yes, I believe it's wrong. Domesticated dog breeds generally have a bred-in desire to please people. A ruly dog ought to learn its lesson by it's owner simply expressing their displeasure by yelling, tone of voice, etc. My mother raised a Pit Bull this way and he's one of the sweetest and most well behaved dogs I've ever known.
depends on what you mean 'hitting'. like kicking or routinely physically abusing your pet is always wrong.
when my cat was growing up if she did anything wrong, it was one of two things (aside from scolding the cat) a light slap or pat on the forehead then pick the cat up away from whatever. or spray water mist at her.
negative reinforcement is sometimes necessary.
