Personally i'm scared of marriage or being in relationship with same partner ( live in ) as differences are bound to come up sooner or later from my side lol.I'd rather prefer one night stands or freinds with benefits over above.Best single FTW !!! =P

I'm getting married in just over two months and we will wait until after marriage before we are intimate with one another. Not until then will we live under the same roof.

I'd much rather be in a relationship than have lots of one night stands.

I don't much care for marriage. I don't need some piece of paper to tell me to stay with my boyfriend for me to do so.

Marriage. If you've ever worked with seniors you'll see just how miserable single people can be.

I prefer living together. But if she is "the one" (As in she must fit every criteria I'd want in a women for her to be perfect), I'm open to the idea of marriage...

I definitely want to get married. I'm only 19, so I'm not going to rush it, but I've always wanted to get married.

I'd rather be married/in a long term relationship. Yes, relationships are work. They're a lot of work, and you hit rough patches you have to work through. And you will have differences of opinion, but that's all part of it.

Avoiding emotional investment in one person and instead opting for one-night-stands for fear of ever having to compromise or bend at all is sad, imo. But then again, anyone not willing to bend at all to make a relationship work beyond booty calls is probably too immature for a real relationship anyway.

I used to think so little of marriage but now that I'm 25 bordering 26, my view on marriage has turned 180'. Maturity sometimes does wonders to one's self and mode of thinking I guess. I'm still at a stage in my life where I need to focus on other things before daring to consider marriage seriously, and I haven't found the one anyway so my rough estimation is that I will get married at the age of 29-30 which is way too late in my culture. I mean most of my peers and cousins are already married with more than one kid.

I wouldn't move in with a guy unless he put a ring on it. Shacking up is just not my thing. There has to be some sort of commitment first.

I know some people view marriage as a peice of paper. But it is so much more than that. It is a commitment from both man and woman to stick out through thick and thin. Unfortunately people nowadays don't know what it means to be married. They are just feeding into Hollywood's idea of how marriage is supposed to be.

I'm in a relationship with my boyfriend for 15 years now.
5 years after we started our relationship we decided to buy a house together, that was 10 years ago.
We both don't feel the need to get married, although it's legal here since 2001, we are perfectly fine with the way we are right now.
So no, I don't value marriage.

I'd love to get married at some point, but I enjoy being single at the moment. It gets lonely sometimes, but it's better to be lonely than be in a miserable relationship.

Very true. I'm seeing my freinds getting divorced within 3 years, girls nowadays only want money, money, and more money, with infidelity thrown as a bonus demand. Poor guys :(

Living together and marriage are the same thing. The former just means the couple was sane enough to see what it's like to live with the other person before making a huge, likely regrettable commitment.

And really, if you love someone, little difference won't come between you. If they do, then that person isn't right for you.

I hate to say it, but this "through thick and thin" idea is why women in abusive relationships are scared to leave... they have this belief that they HAVE to stay because they "made a commitment". No matter how much the man beats her, it must be "her fault" because she isn't doing something right.

Marriage is more than a piece of paper, but it's less than an eternal, unbreakable commitment. It's a mutual agreement between equals to cohabit and treat one another with respect, compassion and adoration. To give more of themselves than ask in return. And be allowed to leave if that agreement is ever violated by one or the other.

@foxhound_fox:

what I mean by 'through thick and thin' is that marriage isn't going to be some disney movie. You are going to have disagreements with yout husband or wife. You will go through illnesses and financial hardships. I know some females who want nothing to do with their man when he is having money issues. Or men who want nothing to do with their wives if they gain 10lbs.

I know people who have big weddings then divorce 3 months later.

It is not about putting up with unacceptable behavior like abuse. It is about being flexible and patient with your spouse, which people lack nowadays.
