I've been on this site for the last five years. I'm 31 years old.

Gaming is entertainment; as such it takes a back seat to work, spirituality, family and other relationships.

My question: has anyone here thought they "outgrew" Gamespot only to come back to it?

I'm currently not in a relationship...however, I notice that I spend less time on anything gaming related when I'm in a relationship.

I would imagine that getting married would take a big part of me away from the internet (and Gamespot). Having a kid could do the same.

I wonder if Gamespot is kind of like high school? Do you "move on" and come back to see that the other members are all young as you used to be?

Or do we grow old with Gamespot?

Perhaps it's not a question of growth or maturity or aging...perhaps Gamespot just is, and what it means to each person changes over time.

Perhaps I'm part of a generation that still remembers the social stigma attached to gaming...?

Finally, the better question is this: does a person outgrow gaming?

I don't know as I'm only 24. I'm sure if I'm 40 it's going to start being hard to relate with GS's young userbase, but who knows.

I wouldn't say you can outgrow gaming or Gamespot.. Gaming is something for all ages and is a great hobby to pass time.. Also Gamespot, if anything, should be for when you're a little bit older.. I find people here a lot smarter than most :P

I don't know. I think when I'm 50 I will log on just to yell and complain about how dumb the youth is and tell them to get off my lawn.

I don't see why one would. I don't outgrow reading books, watching movies, or any other hobbies, so why would I outgrow this one?

I'll be 27 soon. I think I'll keep coming back to it whenever I have lots of free time, from now until a ripe old age.
I was almost never on here during my last 2 years of college, but then came back again once I graduated.

I don't think it is possible to "outgrow" gamespot but you most likely may find something else to do in your free time.

Statistics about gamers and Americans (and I suppose the world in general) state that there should be some pretty big people in here, so I don't think you can "outgrow" GameSpot :P

As for gaming as a whole, I don't think I'll "outgrow" it. Just like books and movies, I suspect I'll put less time into them as work and stuff takes more time away, but I don't think I'll just stop outright until I lack the mental capacity to keep moving on with it.

I see no reason to outgrow an enjoyable hobby. Gamespot isn't for a particular age group, and I'll bet people would be surprised by the age range that visits these boards.

There are definitely times when I want nothing to do with GameSpot. But at least once a day I'll check and see if there's anything good in the news.

Perhaps when my son is born I might start feeling disinclined to visit more often. Who knows.

Apparently not. I'm 29 and I still use the forum to B.S because I don't feel like registering somewhere else.I stopped looking at the games a few years ago because GS isn't as motivated as they once were, it's desolate. I assume that has to do with the fact that no exceptional games have been released for the past five or so years. It's all been done. Nothing but generic shooters that have been simplified for the consoles. Dated concepts with better graphics.

What great games have been released since Deus Ex, Half-Life,System Shock, Bioshock, rainbow SixandSoldier Of Fortune II. All of the console versions of these games were poor, they cut so many corners that they cut all of the good out of these games. There has been a lot neat engines over the past ten years but the games were boring. But to be fair those games aren't meant for me. I don't need new graphics to enjoy the games that have enjoyed for the past 20 years.

I still Play Deus Ex and Team Fortress. If they are selling old games on steam and people are buying them and playing them more than the current games what does that tell us? They should just re-build the old games.

Um... not really. Obviously considering I joined this forum 6 years ago. Although I didn't really post much at all for much of those six years.

I actually think I might be outgrowing gaming, though. Sad but true. I'm mainly into Nintendo, and they have just been really disappointing me lately. And I've realized that sometimes it has been all about me and just expecting too much from them - I've grown up, I can't be so easily amused anymore. So probably there are games that I tear apart that I probably would have seen in a much more positive light back in the day (Namely Super Smash Bros. Brawl.) I mean I do believe that Nintendo has always slacked off on some franchises and I just let it go because I was younger.

I don't know if it's outgrowing GS or just getting tired of it. Sometimes I feel like I'm tired of it (so many repeat threads, same stuff over and over) and that I might not check in for a while. But I always do.
It's possible to outgrow gaming I think. Your tastes change over time.

I go for a period of a few months where I visit GS, then half a year off, then repeat. Usually total boredom initiates it. Then after I spend a few months reading rehashes of the same thread over and over, I end up leaving.

I find it doubtful that I would "outgrow" GS. I enjoy gaming too much.

As much as I enjoy OT, there are other ways to contribute to the GS community, so I upload game videos, write blogs and game reviews.

I don't play games anymore, but not because I've outgrown them. People like games regardless of age. I don't think people would particularly outgrow GameSpot, either. Circumstances may change, but your mindset rarely does.

Back in the 1980s it might have been okay to say games were just for kids, but I think we've really moved on from that. That generation, my generation, has now grown up and makes a large share of the gaming market and games have been made accordingly. The way things are going, I think it will be perfectly fine for me to be playing games when I'm 60.

As long as all that stays true, no, I don't think you can outgrow Gamespot. You might get another interest and "move on," but I don't think "outgrow" is the right expression anymore.

Edit: I'm 30, just an FYI. I'm also married. While my wife doesn't play games, she does enjoy watching me play them while she makes jewelry beside me on the couch. No plans for kids yet (after three years), but I think gaming would actually help me get closer to a child.
