I've grown to not like it.
Obviously the great stuff is great, but so much of it is just mediocre I just don't see the point. Been to Japan as well and, I hate to break it to you folks, but there really isn't that much of a difference between the good spots in the US and the good spots in Japan (of course the great spots in Japan will be a lot better than places in the US).
Also not a big fan of raw fish, it is so flavorless to me, no wonder you're supposed to dunk it in soy sauce and wasabi. Some is good, especially the fattier fish like salmon or mackerel. Mackerel with a paper-thin slice of lemon on top on some rice is so good.
At the end of the day though I'd rather just have a nice bowl of rice with some cooked fish on top.
