Title says it all. I was wondering if most gamers wanted to get into professional games journalism. Personally, I've always wanted to write and talk about games but I've hardly considered it as a full career option. What about you?

Well right now I don't really dream of working :P

Working for a gaming news site is something that's crossed my mind but it's never been something I've genuinely wanted to do.

I never cared enough about gaming to dream of a career in the industry. Even if I were that passionate about it I'd think twice before I make a career of it. I often gaze at a gaming reporter, streamer...etc and say, "damn, I pity this man. He has to make this gimmick his entire life". I also pity the fact that no matter how hackneyed and vapid the medium becomes to him he has to keep up the act to make a living. Besides, unless you're a die-hard gamer, making a career out of your entertainment will kill the joy of it so it's self-defeating.

I'd rather play games and talk all I want on the forums.

Weill, we are in the "have a go" age of youtube, nothing stopping you from doing exactly what you want to do, even if it's just a hobby.

No. However I could more and more see myself working with computers. But I am far from that.

Not at all. Gaming to me is just a 'distraction'. Can be fruitful or harmful. But, a distraction nonetheless.

I'm currently educating myself to work with quality assurance in the software industry. Maybe I will test games, maybe not. It doesn't matter. But I will never review games like they do on gamespot because that's an entirely different thing. I want to find bugs and glitches before the software gets released.

No way. If I'm playing a game that sucks I can stop playing. Those guys need to play all the way through to write a review. That or they're spending hours repeating the same thing in a gate to get footage.

When your hobby becomes your day job its not a hobby any more its work.

I used to be interested early on in High School, but honestly working for a site like Gamespot just doesn't have enough job security. It feels like they throw writers away with about as much forethought as I have picking out what I want to eat for lunch.

If I were to work for a site, I'd want to start it myself, or be fortunate enough to partner with a smaller, more relaxed team, like Giantbomb- but that's the equivalent of saying "I only want to be a chef if I can work with Ramsey."

I think I'll stay perfectly satisfied as an English/Spanish teacher

I wouldn't want to work as a journalist in the gaming industry. I actually wanted to work as a hardware designer for a console company when I started school. However, the more I've learned about HW the more I realize custom chips are mostly a thing of the past. I'm going to try to get a job at intel/nvidia doing digital chip design when I graduate, but that's in 3-5 years...plenty of time to change mind/find other interests.

Sometimes, yes I do but I care more about making games myself. For the past few months I've been thinking about different ways to secure funds to do so. Don't know if I will ever be able to do that but that's something that I really want to do right now.

I would not mind working for Gamespot or another gaming site. I love games and i love gaming and the industry, so to work with something you love is a bonus.

But with that said i also focus on earnings and job security and neither is high in the gaming media and in the gaming industry.

4 years ago I would have said hell yeah. But with all the recent events in the last year concerning games journalism I would say obviously no. I wouldn't mind a job that's video game related but not concerning journalism.

Once I was dreaming about working at Gamespot and that I could proudly tell it to everyone. These days I'd be embarrassed if I had to tell anyone I work at Gamespot. So no, I wouldnt work at Gamespot, some other gaming site, sure.

Nah, I think things like youtube have made game reviewing and news etc open to everybody anyway, so I don't even know what future there is for game news sites like gamespot.

I remember a few years ago seeing an advert for a summer internship at gamespot uk, I contemplated applying since I was free that summer and lived not far from their offices anyway. But it was unpaid (aside from necessary expenses being covered) - so I didn't consider it. Looking back though it might have been interesting and kind of fun to see the inside of a game publication's offices. Or at least I would probably have gotten some free game-related tat out of it.
