do you care about world history?

Other countries say america is dumb because they know more about the world than us. I say we dont need to know about the world history because were innovators. we focus on innovation not history. i leave history to other countries because we do most of the innovation in the world.

Yes I do care, but the vast majority of the history I intentionally study is often narrowed down to the history of Israel, church history, and occasionally religious history of other sorts.

The only part of World History I enjoyed learning about in high school was World War II. Also the Cold War.

That's not true and is rather arrogant.

On topic. World history is important and I do care about it. It's good to know where I came from, why things are they way they are, and to work on learning from past mistakes.

^ Canada invented the game of Basketball. Great Britian developed the Tank and used it for the first time.in the Battle of Somme in 1916. The outbreak of WWII saw Germany and Japan with the strongest military (technically).

And there have been plenty of innovative nations in the past. They are no longer around. So that we ourselves do not face the same future we must learn from their mistakes.

As an American, I have to say your statement that we shouldn't care about world history is arrogant and foolish. Also, Russia put a man in space before the US. We were the first ones to put a man on the moon, though. There are other innovations that were made outside of the US and you shouldn't close your mind to them. I'm almost certain your favorite videogame was made by a developer that wasn't in the US, for example.

You are extremely misinformed.

Russia launched the first man-made object into space (Sputnik 1) and the first man in space (Yuri Gagarin). The first mammal to be cloned was Dolly the Sheep - done in Scotland (by two Englishmen).

I don't see how being innovative in some areas makes you the most innovative country in the world.

yeah I definitely care about history but I think that in general I've received a much more thorough education than the average American. my experiences in high school were mostly excellent (my school was decidedly above average) and now I go to a pretty good college. world history has interested me since I was old enough to be aware of it though. curiosity is innate probably

Yes, but making us read about it in a boring textbook that just breifly talks about it and focuses more on treaty's and other stuff is what history was like, at least for me.

I've heard TC say stuff like this before, still not sure if trolling.

Either way, America is the most innovative when it comes to developing weapons and canned food. As much as I'd like blow stuff up while eating cheese in a can 3 kilometers away, I feel innovation starts with a little thing called the metric system. Learn it. Use it. Love it.

Also, world history is interesting, unless it takes place in what I like to call "the snooze period" between the 1600s to 1900s.

It's important to know history in order to formulate any sort of complex plan involving directing people.

As I've pointed out a couple times on this forum, the US military uses the metric system. Maybe that's why they're so good at blowing things up.

I do care about world history. There are certainly regions and time periods I find more interesting than others, but I do take interest in history in general. While it's important and interesting to learn the history of your own region and your own country, it's just as interesting and important to learn about the other countries in the world. You may be enclosed in your own little bubble, but there is a lot more to the world. I get irritated with the 'dumb' or 'ignorant' American stereotype, but I guess I was in a pretty good school district. We were required to take at least two world history courses in high school + some USA history + economics (included sections on world economics) + politics (which admittedly focused on American politics but definitely briefly covered world politics) and foreign language courses were heavily recommended. I took four years of Latin.

I should care more, but to be completely honest I find history to be an extraordinarily boring subject. Perhaps I had terrible teachers growing up or have issues with the way its presented, but as I see it....the past is the past. We can learn things from it, sure, but is it interesting? Nah. I find very few historical periods to pique my curiousity at all. I think if I met the right teacher who held enthusiam towards it my view would change, but for now I really couldn't care less. The only reason I'd wish to be better informed when it comes to history is for debate. I can't speak on many things because I'm ignorant. And even being knowledgeable, who's to say one's interpretation of history is more accurate than another's? Hell if I know what to believe.

Yes, if we don't look to our past history then everything our fore fathers and ancestors worked to achieve means nothing. The human race advances by learning from its mistakes and improving on old ideas etc. I also very much dissagree that your country does most of the worlds innovation, other than inventing new ways to kill people more efficiently.

Well if you had a knowledge of world history you would know not to get involved in the Middle East because they only understand being controlled by a tyrant and getting involved like America has will be like a parent paying for another relative's cancer treatment. They will go broke.

How about the first man to the moon? ;).

Among the U.S. inventions:

  • Thermostat
  • Payphone
  • Photographic Film
  • Cotton Gin
  • Modern Suspension Bridge
  • Wrench
  • Ironing Board
  • Escalator
  • Vacuum Cleaner
  • Phonograph
  • Radio
  • Volleyball
  • Remote Control (most important thing on list ;) )
  • Muffler
  • Assembly Line
  • Hearing Aid
  • Air Conditioning
  • Airplane
  • Windshield Wipers
  • Washing Machine
  • Traffic Light
  • Toggle Light Switch
  • Instant Camera
  • Garbage Disposal
  • Electric Guitar
  • Microwave Oven
  • Artificial heart
  • Nuclear Submarine
  • Compact Disk
  • Laser Printer
  • Personal Computer
  • wireless LAN
  • Video Game console
  • Recombinant DNA
  • Digital Camera
  • Internet (yep, that was U.S.)
  • Optical Space telescope

No other country has that kind of track record, I don't even want to list the firsts the U.S. has done, I'll be here too long. We'd be much further behind without U.S. inventions. In fact we wouldn't even be typing over the internet!

I enjoy world history. Particularly World War 2, Roman Empire, and the American Civil War.

To call Americans "dumb" is like other nations calling themselves dumb or ignorant.

First of all, making sweeping statements about a nation of 300 million people is "dumb".

Secondly, the U.S. is composed mostly of people descended from European countries. So, basically we are a reflection of Europe.

Note: Only the first 2 statements and the list are in answer to this person, the rest is just a "heads-up" for those who think badly of americans.

Rocketry was around since antiquity. I doubt America would be able to build a spaceship without learning how rocketry works.

Also the first space travel was the Russians who sent Sputnik into orbit. Unless of course you want to note the first person into space...oh wait that was a Russian was well (Yuri Gagarin). And cloning was first achieved with Dolly the Sheep in Scotland.

How about the first man to the moon? ;)

that was all fake. ;)
