The fan film was made by YouTuber, Star Wars Theory, who has a subscriber count over 1.4 million. Here is his response regarding Disney's antics

For years I've been a fan of Disney. Now, I see they are just out for the money and don't give a damn about the fandom. I will continue to be a positive force in the Star Wars community, as I don't feel Disney is Star Wars. I feel George Lucas is Star Wars, and my goal is to help spread his legacy with integrity on this channel as a medium for all those who enjoy my content. Thank you, and may the force be with you. AKA: It's treason...then...

I said it before and I can't say it enough; Disney is the EA of the film industry. The difference is that Disney owns so many beloved franchises that people seem to give them a free pass on all the things that a company like EA would be criticized for.

That comparison makes no sense. Nintendo would actually be more accurate as they are the strictest company in videogames in relation to copyright of their IP's.

You're right in that regard. I mainly used EA as a comparison because they are usually the scapegoat for petty practices that take the fans for granted.

What did you expect? Of course Disney will claim it. They can't have people freely using their copyrights. It would lower it's value

Disney is claiming everything these days. It is pretty annoying if I’m honest. But money has gone to their head.
