Yes. But it's nothing like the game at all. The poem is good.

Dante's Inferno is extremely loosely based on The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, which was written ~600 years ago.

In essence it's one gigantic poem about the narrators travels through Hell, and it is a very good read.

EDIT: The first section called Inferno is where he travels through Hell. You can guess what happens in Purgatorio and Paradiso.

Nah, just pick up the Pinsky edition; it's a great translation and is side-by-side with the Italian

Quite right, though I'm ashamed to say I skipped the Heaven part. :( Just wasn't as interesting.

P.S. Started reading A Game of Thrones again. With any luck I was drastically wrong in my first assessment.

but to fully understand it you need context.. and a lot of the book used historical figures and events which need to be described to the common person.

Dante's Inferno is based on one part of the Divine Comedy which is the epic poem of Dante Alighieri.I read it and it is just pure deep man. It's a must,it's confusing at first but once you really think of the happenings in that poem then you'll understand the true mastery of the Italian poet.
