The English patient. I tried watching it once, got bored 10 minutes into it and zapped my way through other channels with something more entertaining. I know it has gained many oscars and whatnot but it still feels incredibly, skull-numbingly boring to me.

I'm seeing a lot of films in here that we're not necessarily supposed to view as "good" by modern standards. Citizen Kane, for instance, is mostly known for introducing new cinematic techniques into the artform. Hitchcock's films came prior to decades of refinement in the medium. I like a lot these films, but I certainly couldn't fault you for not liking them. In many ways their methods are clumsy by today's standards, and I think you would need to treat many of them as timepieces in order to truly appreciate them.

Slow = bad. Gotcha.

Anywho, I find the original Scarface by Howard Hawks to be absolutely awful on a multitude of levels. It's probably one of the dumbest gangster films I've ever seen.

I also don't care for Taxi Driver all that much, despite watching it twice.

Taxi Driver comes to mind, it was okay to me.

I was excited to watch Blade Runner for the first time a few years ago and it was a little underwhelming. Maybe I should watch the Director's Cut.

Blade Runner gets so much praise because of the time it came out in. Was innovative for the time. Still an entertaining movie. I thought it was decent.

Well obviously not just its slowness, but the fact that I didn't find it very interesting at all.

Not really. Blade Runner was pretty misunderstood when it released. Critics thought it was too complicated and it did pretty badly in the box office. It was only until years later when Scott did his Director's Cut that it reached a high level of acclaim. Love Blade Runner. <3

Ah man every time someone says not for me, I think of this song. The whole album has been stuck in my head all weekend.

2001. A very pretentious film, with a lot of fluff and unnecessary scenery porn.

Hal, however, is a great character.

If anything, the more I think about it, 2001 would have been a lot better if the fluff were cut out, and if had been reworked into a Twilight Zone episode.
