And it's due to the misbranding and undeclared allergens. Yikes!

They're pulling them because of allergens and misbranding? You'd think they would recall it over the fact that it's pasta in a friggin' can. If you're over the age of 4 and still eating Chef Boyardee, Spagetti-Os, and that type of stuff, I feel sorry for you.

Undeclared allergens are the most nutritious thing to be in canned pasta.

Oh this is one of those threads where everyone gets all snooty and acts like they can't eat anything that costs less than $15 and doesn't say "organic" on the front?

Cheap pre-made food is extremely popular for anyone on a budget. And especially for those who don't know how to cook. Which is why Ramen Noodles are everywhere. Even if the insane salt levels per serving. Will create health issues for anyone who regularly eats that stuff.

Used to like Chef as a kid. Never knew I was eating rebranded military rations from WW2 till recently. Oddly, I stop eating Chef years ago. Since dairy was an ingredient. And this article says dairy laced bread wasn't declared.

Ellios Pizza and Chef were go to's for when I was hungry. And dinner wasn't made as a kid.

I can make 10x the volume of a can of Chef Boyardee for 5x the price (I can scale it down reasonably, too, assuming my pantry is stocked like any home and I'm not starting from scratch). The only thing I can't do is can it (but then again, I can...can it. With some effort and a little acidification).

Organic is a scam; eat local, eat quality. Organic is a brand name, that's all.

Sure, you brag about your survival skills when the zombie/economic/etc apocalypse comes or your carpentry/mechanic/stereotypical manly skills, but god damn son you can't even cook yourself a basic meal for a reasonable price. That's straight up laughable to me.

I agree, Chef Boyardee is awful. It's seriously worse than canned dog food on toast.

Have you tasted Chef Boyardee? Nothing snooty. Just nasty stuff. Bleh. ;) I hated my veggies too. But, I rather eat my veggies than Chef Boyardee. For something pasta, it had a medicine taste to it.

Hell, I came from a broke-ass family myself, but we never had to resort to eating pasta from a can. There's better options than that.

I buy it as a quick and easy meal when I'm feeling lazy. I don't eat it all the time.

Spaghetti is pretty much the cheapest thing you can make. It costs me around £1 for a kilogram and that's not even the cheapest brand available. Granted you will probably want some sauce, but again that's only around £1 a jar. So you're not even going to be saving much if anything by buying canned spaghetti.

You don't even save much time or effort with it either. To make spaghetti all you do is throw it in a pan with some water. Which is the same thing you do with the cans, minus the water.

Even a peasant wouldn't eat that garbage.

I actually like the stuff. I also just eat it cold out of the can... I get a lot of weird looks haha.

@toast_burner: I have spaghetti and sauce, I give it a shot and make it now and then. Whenever I do, however, it often does not turn out right. Maybe the noodles aren't done enough, maybe they are overdone. Sometimes it tastes alright, but then I still get sick afterwards.

You can get a thing of spaghettios for about a dollar. Or at least a 4-pack for under $5. Off-brand is even cheaper. It costs more for spaghetti and sauce, and making a can of spaghettios is much simpler.

Yep, about on par for me here as well in the U.S. A 1 lbs of spaghetti it costs about about a $1, sometimes cheaper and a jar of sauce also for a $1. It's far cheaper to make your own spaghetti than buying it canned. I like Chef Boyardee a lot, but even eating two cans it's not that filling as apposed to a nice big plate of spaghetti. So for the price of 2 cans, I can make it myself and get easily more than double/triple the food. In the end it's far cheaper.
