Weren't people (cough cough celebs) making her out to be a saint upon her death? Talk about praising the wrong people.

@Solaryellow: What does being a "good person" have to do with using drugs?

@narutosup: "stupid shit" is YOUR interpretation. And yes there are drugs in heaven since god made everything you see here on earth.,

More than you obviously know or care to know. Her desire to experiment with various chemicals has effected the lives of many and not in a positive light.

@Solaryellow: You live and die bro. maybe she was trying to cope with things that you couldnt even imagine. Dont blame chemicals for PERSONAL ADDICTION ISSUES.

Go around the block a few times and then get back at me. No offense

If that's how she wanted to live her life then good for her, if it was part of a drug addiction problem then that's a shame.

I'm far too intelligent to willingly and knowingly ingest deadly chemicals like the woman in question. Did someone force her to try these drugs? My guess is no. Quit with the addiction issues excuse because she made decisions that ended up negatively impacting others. Lets stop glorifying a drug user.

@Solaryellow: There is no glory is being a drug user. Addiction was her problem OBVIOUSLY. An addiction to being high on whatever she could get her hands on. Because somehow she wasnt entirely happy from one or multiple issues in her life and that is a problem that is only with her and she took to her grave. So bottom line you dont know SHIT about her life or anything that was going on. Not saying that I do but cmon its common sense

Your defense of this woman does nothing to take away from the fact that she made a conscious (at some point) decision to try hard drugs knowing the risks associated with such a choice. If this were Joe Smith, McDonalds worker currently a user, he would be condemned rather than praised, excused and glorified like the clown in question. Her choices have put her into the same category as so many other celebrities who lived the hard life and met their demise prematurely.

How is Joe Smith any different from carrie fisher. They both have problems so what if one is more successful than the other. A life is a life.

I am in no way shape or form praising her ( i guess she should be shunned for having issues that everyone has including YOURSELF). However I understand why she took drugs as I have experienced some SHIT in my life that clean words cannot describe.

So whenever something bad happens to you and you die and they are cutting open your dead bloated carcus and talking shit about the substances in your body I will be the first one to make a forum post on here talking crap about YOU.

People literally wanted their daughters to emulate her.

She was a druggie. Period. Case closed. Don't collect $200 after passing Go.

The fact of the matter is no sane and rational person would want their child to be like her. No one would be proud to say their friend, child, etc.., was a heroin user. Like jasonguy said, people were making this chick out to be a pillar of everything good and just in the world and in reality she wasn't any better than the user who sleeps in an alley at night but she played a character in a movie so that makes it all different. I'm reminded of the bullshit tweets or social media posts of Mark Hammil to the point where I'm not sure if the appropriate response is laughter or puking.

As someone who never even smoked a Marlboro, Camel or anything, I won't worry about anything in my system causing any sort of embarrassment. I enjoy life. I enjoy life to the point where I do not need illicit drugs and narcotics to compensate or fulfill something missing in life.

a saint? No, not really. They were making her out to be a free spirit who fought her demons the best way she knew how. Drug addiction, sexual abuse, bipolar, depression, alcoholic, a female in Hollywood...not really an easy life.

I would argue that the "praise" she received was, in the context of the praise all celebrities received, framed relatively well, all things considered. She was open about her mental health issues, talked about her drug problems, she didn't claim to be anyone's hero (though I think many claimed she was their's, and that's fine). She is as much a cautionary tale as she is an idol, and I'd argue most people identify more with Leia than Carrie as far as role-modeling goes.

Towards the end of her life, her career was pretty much 90% self-deprecation about all the above.

She's not my hero, but I don't think we need to vilify her. So she had some drugs in her when she died. So will half of this country. Big woop.

@Storm_Marine said:

No you are not. Not really sure why we need to know this tbh. First off, not really a big surprise. Second of all, who cares? Third, dick move for this person to publicize this.

She had a bipolar disorder or something like that.

But hollywood celebs and drug use/abuse are largely synonymous. Don't we lose a few to drug abuse every year? And I don't understand why anyone would want to make role models out of any actors or actresses, thats kinda the last place you wanna look at. I can imagine teens looking up to them because of inexperience and naivety but full adults? come on.

@Solaryellow: first sentence : Define a druggie. Drug companies are everywhere and just about everyone that you or I know uses DRUGS. Just because its not given to you by your drug deal ER i mean doctor(middle man) doesnt mean its not good for you.

second paragraph : I agree

third paragraph: Thats great man! Good for you! :) I have a family history of suicide, depression, alcoholism, etc. The list goes on. I guess you could call my whole family druggies. But I love them all very much and we are a very happy family with our habits. So before you go thinking you know everything get out of your dark decrepit basement and make some friends.

Poor thing. It's sad that she had these problems in life. Just goes to show that money and fame can't necessarily bring one happiness. As the saying goes you don't really know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes.

I got this great idea. We should judge a dead person because we just care so damn much what she did with herself when alive. If we judge enough druggies out there, we might have an epiphany.

If she was on ecstasy and cocain, then you can be sure she was quite happy. Perhaps you never did drugs before. Fame and money has absolutely nothing to do with anything, if you like drugs....you like drugs. Doesn't matter who you are or what you are happy or unhappy with. It's not like happy people don't enjoy drugs too ya know.

@pimphand_gamer: Well from the sounds of it she had some issues so I'd be willing to bet that she used drugs to cope with those issues. Just pointing out that fame and money don't automatically wash away someone's issues.

No I really don't (used to) but if you are making a comparison between drinking (responsibly) liquor (sold here by the state) with illicit drugs like cocaine and heroine and such, have at it.

None, not one, of you defending ole Carrie would be defending and supporting an average schmuck who was as reckless as she. Being a celebrity........

@Solaryellow: That's not true at all, people can and do feel sympathetic to the average person as well. The thing is though that we interact with celebrities through their works so we tend to feel more of an attachment to them. That doesn't negate any sympathies we may feel when we see an unknown person lose their life in a similar fashion. Saying that people wouldn't have similar feelings about an average person just because they are expressing their feelings about a celebrity is a stawman argument.

She had Bipolar I. I also have this and have dealt with addiction problems myself. I nearly died from an overdose when I was 16. It has NOTHING to do with "partying". 15% of people with Bipolar I will die by their own hand. 50% attempt suicide. It is difficult to deal with if you are not medicated properly.

Why do people always assume someone must have problems to do drugs ?

Can't people just get high because they enjoy it ?

@jut: I don't always assume that. It's just that she was an advocate for Bipolar I and often spoke about her struggle with it. Because of that she was a hero of mine.

There's a whole documentary with Stephen Fry about mental disorder and bipolar, and Fisher has a big part in that documentary. She pretty much explains her whole medical history there.

Apparently the nuance of language is over your heads. I'm sorry about that.No really. Hint....does she not is not the same as she does not.
