I want it.

If well scripted, well produced, and well casted it could turn out to be a great movie. build their relationship and set them in creative situations would be great to watch. it could be dramatic, humorous, cute, and touching. whose with me?

I love the comic but I already know they would ruin it with a movie. I voted no

No, I wouldn't like it, mostly because Bill Watterson wouldn't want it, and I tend to side with the creators on issues like this one. He hated the idea of commercializing and expanding Calvin & Hobbes into other media and resented all the pressure that was placed on him to do endorse it. The man has integrity.

No, the series does not need a movie.

Bill Watterson ended Calvin and Hobbes not because he couldn't do it anymore, but because he was honest with himself and felt he had nothing more for Calvin to say or do within the confines of a daily comic strip. Furthermore, Calvin and Hobbes has never had anything approaching a cohesive plot (although certain sustained story arcs occasionally do come up). A movie would almost certainly come across as a cash-in, and Bill Watterson is a man with almost unparalleled artistic integrity - so there is no way he would let Calvin and Hobbes appear in something like a movie, anyway.

I say direct to DVD shorts, based on original comic strips and drawn by Bill Watterson.

Hollywood rapes artists... And the souls of the American people.

No. Hobbes wouldn't work in motion, as I seem to remember Watterson saying. I don't see any potential for Calvin & Hobbes anything except for a comic strip, honestly. Thank God Watterson was so adamant about the licensing or we would have already had some vomitous Macaulay Culkin vehicle in the mid-90s.

Even though it's not going to happen anyway (Bill Watterson wouldn't allow it) it would be a terrible idea anyway. Terrible. Luckily, it won't happen

No. Nay. Never. By no means. No way. Not at all. Absolutely not.

It would tarnish the original comics, no matter what they did. Calvin and Hobbes is something that should just stay on paper.

Waterson fought his syndicate for licencing rights to avoid this sort of thing. I don't even like it when I see those laminates on the back of cars, a movie would be an abomination.

Yeah this. Calvin and Hobbes is special because it doesn't try to be something it isn't. Watterson did a fantastic job on the comic series and I think it would tarnish the comic and Watterson's integrity. As much as I'd like to hear Calvin talk to Hobbes in an animation or something, the simple fact is that it would be made purely for monetary gain, which is exactly what Watterson was against. You don't see any merchandise for Calvin and Hobbes because of this.

Bill Waterson is a great, great, man.... Im not sure if anyone here realizes just how much money that guy has turned down in order to maintain the spirit of his comic series. He even tried to sue those companies that produce those shirts and stickers with calvin peeing on things not for the money but again because it ruined the characters image. Calvin isnt like that. hes not nasty and gross just for the sake of being nasty and gross. I also think that if anyone tried to adapt it in any way shape or form it would somehow taint the original and wouldnt be able to compare to the it without the help of Bill Waterson. Also calvin and hobbes voice are in my head, I never want to hear them speak

There should be a movie based off of the people Calvin and Hobbes are named after, John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes. Now THAT would be a great movie. Granted, as a Calvinist I am "slightly" biased. :P

They'd probably ruin it. Plus Bill Watterson ended it through his own choice. It's probably best left untouched.

That's a fake. The last Calvin and Hobbes strip does not involve medications of any kind.
This is how Calvin and Hobbes ended:

No way, I am under the impression that the comic ended because Watterson was being pressured to expand the Calvin and Hobbes brand to marketing, etc so he just eneded it to avoid it being whored out.
