Right there is a picture from my balcony about 20 minutes ago. Doesn't look to bad, considering Hurricane Lane should be hitting us sometime tomorrow, huh? Got the food and water prepped, charging batteries and battery packs for my electronic devices in case we lose power, and I'm heading home from work early tomorrow afternoon before the city bus lines shut down. The storm should hit sometime tomorrow night.

Wish me luck...

Good luck. I can't fathom what it must be like to live in hurricane zones and having to deal with them every so often.

Thanks, guys. Might take some pictures when I (safely) can, and update this frequently.

Been through a couple when I lived in NC but I didn't live on an Island. If the sky is clear enough tomorrow you should get a green or Mars-red sunset.

I'm sure you know all the usual steps, but if you need AA batteries buy an off-brand lantern battery and open it up. There's like 20 of those bastards in there.

Stay safe and pics or it didn't happen.

Good luck.

Water and cash, hope you have plenty of both on hand. I recommend filling up any pots and bath tubs with potable water, and taking out at least a few hundred dollars in cash (for when ATM's don't work, food needs to be bought, or even--god forbid--bribes need to be made).

Not even sure if I'll be able to see the sunset tomorrow, but it sound wild. Not sure how clear things will be, as I'll take some pics tomorrow when I get home, and maybe during the day as I head to work. It's calm and still clear for the time being.

If anyone is interested in storm tracking and whatnot, Here's some links to the local news channels in Honolulu:

@mrbojangles25: Got a couple bucks in cash stashed away--it's supposed to be for my trip to the mainland to see my family next week, but it'll serve as emergency funds in case it's needed. Going to fill the tub with water when I get home from work tomorrow for the toilet in case the water system is jacked up. Don't think things will be bad enough as bribe money...but you never know.

Also sorry for stating the obvious I'm sure you have them, but...candles and matches. Oil/gas lanterns.

and don't forget about motivation!

Stay safe moderator man.

Usually the UK goes into red alert when we have 2 inches of snow. A hurricane would end us.

Outside at 4:35 am. Overcast, and the ground is wet. Just turned on the local news to see updates, and if to find out if they cancelled public transportation early (looks like it's still running right now). The storm is weakening, but it's still a Cat 3 storm right now that's 300 miles wide and winds are 130 miles per hour.

All public banks are closing early today, and the power company are stating that because two thirds of power lines are above ground, expect some sort of service disruption. Still waiting to see what estimated time the storm will start impacting O'ahu.

@hallenbeck77: Just pics? Why not go all out? Wait until the wind is near its maximum velocity and do your best Psy impression.

@jaydan: That had me laughin' out loud!

The first pic is a distant shot of Pearl Harbor, in front of that is the local shopping mall across the street. The second is another shot toward the west side of the island. No rain yet, but the wind is picking up steadily.

I just woke up a few minutes ago, and tuned into the local stations (almost 6:30 am here). Still getting full details; for Oahu. It's still very windy, (around 25-50 mph gusts) and and the rain isn't too intense here yet. However, in Maui, there's current a brush fire that's spreading rapidly from the winds, and they haven't received any rain yet. The Big Island has felt the brunt of the storm with flooding and multiple road closures.

This is from about 20 minutes ago.

@hallenbeck77: I was just in Hawaii last year (Mauii and the Big Island) for my honeymoon. It's been crazy to see all the stuff it's dealt with since then. Volacano eruptions and now the hurricane.

Yeah, especially the Big Island. Between the eruptions and the rain they've been getting since Wednesday, it's been a brutal year there. We're here on Oahu, waiting for the other shoe to drop. The storm is VERY slow going, moving only about 5 mph, and it's about 170 miles south of us.

Judging by you're post and here on GS now, I can tell you'll be just fine :)

Glad the Storm isn't a major problem in Oahu for you that is.

At least not yet. It's still slow going, and we're bound to get something. We're very lucky compared to the other islands at the moment. Appreciate the kind words.
