Rotting Christ, Burzum, Bathorychessmaster1989
Burzum was alright but the bad quality kind of ruins it for me.

I don't recommend Black Metal.

Yes, because that's what I'm totally saying.
It's not really black metal, but Shining is f***ing mind blowing.

EDIT: Apparently I didn't make myself clear enough as some posters ahve pointed out. The first list of bands are to start you out and include links to songs that in my opinion represent them well. The second list that does not include links is simply there for you to look at when you decide you want something new, it is merely there to serve as a reference.

I have a feeling you're not really recommending anything, just showing off how much black metal you listen to. Nope. I gave him a list of bands to start with including links to examples. The other bands listed separately are intended to be there as a reference point for when he wants to try out more bands.[QUOTE="Vennligsinnet"]

The vocals in this are awesome! Is there anything like them but with more metal sounding instruments?

Their older stuff was black metal their new stuff is more Gothic.
Drudkh, Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Summoning, Emperor, and Darkspace. So pretty much Ragek's list, but with Emperor instead of WitTR.Guppy507
Could we keep WitTR and include Emperor? :P
Agalloch is my favorite blackish thing ever. Just brilliancy. Imagine you're lost in the woods and it's snowing, and it's cold, the wind is blowing and you're lost, and you know you're going to die if you don't find shelter. And you find a cabin, the ruins of a cabin, and you open the door and it's illuminated, and there's a fire, and it's warm. From this coldness, brutality from outside, of life, and of death being this warm comfortable place. And you know that cabin in the woods is the place you're going to be forever. That's Agalloch.
Black metal is difficult to get into if you jump head first into bands like Burzum and Emperor, so I would reccomend listening to some black metal bands that have flavors from other genres. Immortal's Sons of Northern Darkness album has some thrashy bits to it, so I would reccomend them if you're already a fan of thrash metal. Impaled Nazarene and Gorgoroth (old) have some punk elements to their sound, so check them out too if you're into punk.
I dunno really TC, I could never really get into the genre and I can't really name a band that I'd find worthwhile!!

There are a lot of really good bands on that list...
Burzum, Immortal, Emperor, Drudkh, Mutiilation (Don't overlook this band, one of the best in the scene), The Ruins of Beverast, Summoning, Wyrd, and Graveland are all great. Agalloch isn't really black metal. 'Dark metal' at most, and even that seems like a stretch to me. Only good thing WitTR has done is 'Two Hunters'.KHAndAnime
Hence why I labeled them "blackish", yet that still didn't stop your predictable correction. Agalloch is black metal, folk metal, folk, dark ambient, drone, neofolk, post-rock, and the list goes on. Though I agree with you on Two Hunters. Everything else is pretty bland.

Agalloch all has elements from these genres, but that doesn't necessarily make them the genres they borrow elements from. The only thing blackish about Agalloch is the occasional raspy voice or two.

You're kidding!
I never heard about any of this.
But seriously, white metal actually kind of exists. It's a term they made up for black metal which is christian, seeing as black metal was typically satanic/anti-religious back in the day, they decided to keep the christians out of it with a silly made up genre

To be honest, first time I heard Agalloch I thought I was listening to an alternative rock band or something. Agalloch has a very pleasant and accommodating guitar tone, and I've never actually heard Agalloch use blast beats, though I'm sure they have once or twice. I like Agalloch, I think the band is very decent, but recommending Agalloch in a black metal thread is like going into a punk thread and recommending Green Day. I have no doubt though that Agalloch is heavily influenced by black metal (Drudkh).
