Something I've always thought about.

Will exposing yourself to scary situations, for example watching scary movies in the dark alone, or going into the dark alone just to feel scared make you a stronger person mentally or will it just eff you up mentally?

So basically does forcing yourself in scary situations build character?

Scars do indeed look cool. Your title is misleading if you compare it to the content of your post. Anyway, it could go both ways.

Scary situations is a great way to bond with someone. If you want that woman on the first date to remember you, then pay some guys to act like thugs and hold you up with fake guns. Do some Chuck Norris **** and scare them away. She will immediately yearn to give you sons.

I've been inmany postions when I have been scared and it acctually kinda messed me up more for the majority but sometimes it would make me stronger in the sense of being more aggresive which is good thing or a bad thing.

I know multipal war vets a couple from WW2 and well they told me when they got home they were messed up pretty bad. Here is some examples of how being scared hurts you.

Shellshock and well thats all I can think of.

In a real situation you can develop PTSD and other anxiety problems.

Every scary situation you encounter that reminds you of the past will give you panic attacks.

Being scared by certain events can ruin a person's life. I'm talking like having somebody rob you while you're in the house, being car jacked, raped etc etc. If a horror movie scares you, you'll be better in the morning.

So maybe it depends on the situation then. I can see one being affected by those examples but not that kind of trauma from something like I described. But is that to say you can't walk away stronger from a "lesser" scary situation?

You might overcome the fear of darkness, but it won't make you any less afraid of your other fears.

Putting yourself in "scary situations" desensitizes you and nothing more. It doesn't make you stronger or jack you up in the head. However, depending on the situation it might make you dead.

Depends on the person. Some peoples' nerves get the best of them so they screw up. Other people dial it in and get more focused.
