Playing Diablo 2 with Dial-up internet was probably the lowest form of masochism I could have subjected myself to.
GRANDMA CAN WAIT MOM, I NEED AN OCCY!

accy? might cool!
I remember that vividly... my parent's always hated how I took up the phone line and incoming calls couldn't get through. Eventually they got me a cable connection. So it worked out rather well.

Ahh, yes dial up.
"NO, YOU CANT USE THE PHONE, IM USING THE INTERNET!!"
Then we got cable internet. I was the first one I knew who got it, so I was teh cool. 8)
I remember that sound very clearly, having heard it as recently as a year ago. :|
My brother (who resides in South Africa) was still struggling with a dial-up connection in late 2009, until I dragged him---kicking and screaming---into the 21st century by forcing him to upgrade to DSL.
I swear, if I hadn't flown all the way from the US to South Africa for a Christmas visit and installed a DSL connection while I was there, my brother would STILL be using dial-up!
The horribly slow memories michael_1234576haha i like the sound but i hate the memories it evokes of connecting to the internet
Reminds me of playing Terris and other MUD's hehe, was so eager to get on and play and my fingers crossed at the dial-up connecting, they were fragile things constantly having connection problems.
Yes, of course I remember that sound. It brings me back to my younger/horrid days of using the atrocity one calls AOL.
When I finally got broadband I remember being amazed that webpages would pop up instantly without waiting to connect online. I'm enjoying my internet again because I just switched from DSL to cable and it's sooooo much faster.
