Be honest: How many of you don't remember this?

So it occured to me that while my generation probably remembers this sound pretty well and everything associated with it, there's probably a lot of kids these days who have never heard this before except maybe on TV. Kind of crazy to think this sound has gone from common place to utterly absent in only 11 or so years.

Ah yes, I remember those horrible times. Makes me grateful for the age that we live in today. Too bad though that no one is there to tell me "You've got mail!".

Yep when I first got internet... well dial-up. I'm still wonder till this day why it makes those sounds.

I think it was around 1999-2000 when I had it. I remember shopping for my first computer too.

Never in my own house, but at my friend's (as late as 2004), and my Grandma's yes.

I used dial up until I think 2003 so it's still in memory and i hated it

I will never forget that sound... Back when I was 8 I would always try to connect to the internet in offline mode and would hear that constantly. The browser had saved information from websites so it appeared to work offline. Man was I stupid...yentlequible

That sound also didn't make it easy to sneak onto the computer at night to look at porn (which was also a crazy internet revelation at the time). :P

I used to have that about 5 or 6 years ago because it was the only thing we could get where we lived. Then we got satelite which was hardly any faster. Now we have fiber optic from a tower and it's fast enough for PS3 online.

I remember dial-up... and all the frustration associated with it.
