William Fitchner, simply love this guy be it antagonist or serious role. He should do more movies, probably few solo too :)

Would not say he is underated but I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the best actor out there.
I thought Don Jon was great, proved he could write and direct also.
J.K. Simmons and Michael Ironside.
Simmons wins life for his roles as Cave Johnson and Jonah Jameson. Talk about having the perfect actor for the perfect role.
As for other underrated actors, I feel like Raul Julia doesn't get enough recognition. He was absolutely phenomenal as Gomez in the 90's Addams Family movies and he was even amazing as Bison in the wonderfully awful Street Fighter movie. He actually seemed to be the only one taking that movie seriously and perfectly delivers one of my fav movie lines ever in that craptastic movie. I feel like had he not died so young he could have been way more famous. Shame he died so damn young (he was 54).
Another somewhat overlooked actor is Tim Curry. He never plays the lead so it is easy to overlook him, but the man has done tons of movies and has shown himself to have a ton of range. His best performance is easily his portrayal of Pennywise the clown in the IT miniseries (he seriously is what makes the miniseries work. Would have been utter shit without him), but that role is vastly different from the majority of the roles he plays which just speaks to his range as an actor.
Walton Goggins. His work on The Shield, as Shane, was brilliant. Some of his scenes from the later seasons will haunt me forever.
Also:
Amen. To this day, its my favorite. He also does really good on Justified and has cameo appearances on Sons of Anarchy as a tranny.
Charlie Hunnam. His part as Jax in 'Sons of Anarchy' was played perfectly and made that show friggin' amazing.
He make love with Lord Petyr Baelish ... lolz
Hmm I'd have to go with
Actors
Actresses

This guy just spoke my mind :)
Gary Oldman. I can't believe he has not won an Oscar yet.
A better villain than a good guy, but yeah...I can float with this one.
You guys have whole lists and I couldn't think of one even if I tried. What is an underrated actor/actress? One that never got a good part but somehow you just know they'd kill if they got one? One that is awesome but doesn't show in every movie/show you'd like to see them in?
Jimmi Simpson. he was great in Breakout Kings.
Anna Torv. Couldnt think of a better actress for Fringe.

William Fichtner was superb in Prison Break.
Huh....reading the names in this thread I see many actors that are critically acclaimed....wtf does underrated mean to you guys?
@indzman: Did you list Bennet and Amell right next to each other on purpose, or was it just a coincidence? Or did thinking of one lead you to thinking of the other?
@ferrari2001:
Interesting, I went into this topic to see if anyone from my shows, such as Arrow or Agents of Shield, were mentioned by anyone. Turns out we have three Arrow actors being mentioned so far: Amell, Glau, and Bennet.
Jim Carrey (still typecast in comedies)
Jet Li (he can do more than just fighting)
Kevin Bacon (you don't see/hear his name a lot when it comes to best actors list)
Casper Van Dien
Kate Beckinsale (I think Underworld and the other so-so action movies overshadowed her overall career)
Jack Black
@jasean79: screw that guy. He single handedly ruined Pacific Rim with his piss poor acting. Every time he or that actress who played Mako got on screen I felt the bitter taste of vomit creep up my throat into my mouth.
On A Clear Day is on tv atm. Seen him in side roles for major movies as well as a few British drama series.
Peter Mullan is kinda awesome.
ben foster hasn't been in a lot of movies that were bound to get him acclaim, but his roles have been pretty disparate and i think he's done a solid job in a lot of them.
i don't know that i'd call him an "awesome" actor quite yet, but i thought robert pattinson was very good in cosmopolis. he just gets a lot of hate because he was in twilight where he had awful dialogue to read and a ridiculous character to play. yeah, he probably got paid for it well enough, but a lot of actors have to do sh*t roles to gain more control of their later career. i won't hold it against him if he goes on to great things.
