That's cool, I'm personally at 15 mb/s which is clearly not the fastest, but it's always been fast enough for my needs.
This is me. Not the best you'll find in the US but about as good as I can get in my area unless I want to spend north of $200 a month. I look forward to this area catching up with some of the faster areas in the US where 100mbit is pretty standard.

All this speed comes at the cost of increased energy expenditure and global warming. You asshats are killings the world.!
I'm sitting here with 12 Mb/s down. I would like to have faster speed, but right now with how much I'm paying, I'll wait for that.
you know I pay for 12 or something but the fastest I get is 3.3. Not sure how that works...
Whatever, I come from the age of pre-internet, and then of dial-up. I am thankful for what I have, and for not having to go EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR_R_R_R_R__R_R_R__R_R_R__R_R_R__ KSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH anymore
*also, happy I don't have a cap. I hear about Australians and (in the US) people in rural areas that have to have satellite internet and they get like 10gb a month. That's nothing, man.
It's pretty surprising in a country like the US to find out just how many places don't have access to "regular" internet. I mean you live outside city limits in a small town, forget about it. Hell for half my college career I lived in a house in the country and I didn't have internet. Was my most productive two years but also my saddest lol.
Just imagine what it would be if Rural areas in the US had access to real internet besides garbage Satellite internet where you are stuck between god awful HughesNet and overly expensive Verizon Home Fusion with a price of $120 for 30 gb of data a month
Glad I don't live in the middle of nowhere anymore..
this be me
the sad part is the "FASTER THAN 88% OF US"
WOW do a ton of people have it bad, if thats the case
I live in The Netherlands and have a 150 Mb/s connection, which is the medium speed of my provider.
The Netherlands is really small, flat (no mountains, deserts and large forests) and densely populated, so high speed internet is pretty much possible and affordable for everyone.
I have 100mbps down and 10mbps up with around 10ms of ping. On steam I can download at 15-16MB/s. $40 a month. Beats my old service which was $70 for 25mbps
Most cable companies are switching to all digital for video services in the US. That will free up more bandwidth for more DOCSIS channels. On top of that, DOCSIS 3.1 is coming out soon with max speeds of 10Gbs down and 1Gbs up. The average will jump considerably in the next couple years.
True. I got a free bump from 50 Mbps to 60 Mbps.
Tested the 802.11n WiFi adapter of my laptop a few days ago. I don't play online games. So, the upload speeds are fine.

A ton of people probably don't know how to test their bandwidth.
@PSP107: I had internet and basic cable with another provider. I moved and was able to find a different provider with an Internet only package which was much cheaper.
Recently had my internet speed increased to this since it was a new plan that was available for the same price. But my internet has been fast enough for me for years.
I download games occasionally but other than that I mostly just browse forums and watch videos on Amazon or Youtube.

Read the fine print. Many providers offer a guaranteed minimum and maximum range for your speed and provided it falls in that range, they are giving you what you pay for. Verizon DSL was notorious for this and when I had it, it NEVER went anywhere close to the maximum speed.
I dumped that company last September because the issues were so numerous from slowing speeds as the norm, constant loss of connection, rain and thunderstorms (no matter how minor) effecting DSL, etc..,
Verizon DSL was 1-3 and normally half of that was the norm. Cable for the past 11 months:
Since I moved back into my college dorm. I took the test again and got better results.

Out of curiousity, what speeds do you get when downloading a game off steam?

I've only downloaded one game since I upgraded but it was staying around 44-45MB/s. So pretty much my full speed which is nice. I'm curious to see what I'll get on my Xbox One though since I'm thinking about getting a new game for it pretty soon. It'd be great to get full speed on that but I doubt it.
How can you tell what your speed is ?

Thanks JPLucas. Seems like my upload is faster then my download at work. Pretty sad. Can't wait to try this at home, i bet its way faster. Plus i'm on wi-fi here.
21.17 mbps in download, and 25.15 mbps in upload.
My specs here are about 50 down, 5 up, ping around ~20. I pay around $75 per/mo. Any plan lower than that for my area and I sacrifice upload speed (goes from 5 to 1 upload, womp womp).

When I had 50 Mbps downloads, GTA V took 2 hours 53 minutes (via Steam) from the start of download to the start of Prologue. I think the download size of GTA V is 59.1 Gb.
