Ariana Grande is the #1 Artist in the World right now

Releasing 2 masterpiece Albums within a span of 6 months is an incredible achievement, and she’s dominating the charts completely. Her vocals are unmatched and the writing in her songs is the best we’ve ever seen from someone her age. I can’t think of any musician with her level of talent, passion and creativity at this moment. What say you OT?

I wouldn't call either of those albums "masterpieces" in the slightest. Dangerous Woman was superior to both. Almost every song on thank u, next sounds the same. There's almost nothing with a strong beat or her signature powerful vocals.

She doesn't even write her own music lol.

Yeah. She might be the #1 performer in the world, but #1 artist? I think not. Artist create.

With that said, she does have some natural talent to sing; a shame it's wasted on such crap.

The mere thought of these bubble-gum pop, kiddie appealing "artists" making "masterpieces" sways between laughable and embarrassing.

It's hard for me to say someone is an exceptional artist in music when they don't write anything they come out with. She's an amazing singer, that much I'll give her. I'm just not a fan of this derivative pop bullsh*t.

The only song from the “thank u next” album that I find catchy is Bloodline. Which was written and I think even produced by Max Martin who probably worked on most of that album.

For the most part, yeah, the songs do sound the same. Kind of sucks how pop music is overly simplied these days compared to in the 90’s where they’d have seasoned music producers composing the tracks instead of just beat makers. (Not saying this is the case all the time though.)

@speeny: 90s pop was MmmBop, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and the Spice Girls. Get real. It’s all catchy the first time you hear it, but gets remarkably less so every time it’s replayed, and almost none of it aged well.

I actually just heard a song called Juice by Lizzo, it’s as good as any pop music I’ve ever heard, and it was just released. But I can assure you I’ll be far more likely to revisit Decks Dark or Reckoning by Radiohead in 20 years over any pop song.

No, not really. In terms of vocals, she has a wide range, but weak enunciation. And she's certainly not a talented songwriter. The only musical talent she has is a wide vocal range, and that's about it.

What's her chin got to do with anything?? She's not my sort of music but you have to admit Grande's vocal range is very impressive. Fair play to her and her consistent hard work; I believe she's had some misfortune in her personal life this past year, too.

I haven't heard a single song from her. I only know her because of the shooting at her conzert. So yeah I can't judge it, but I doubt that there is any way to define "the #1 Artist in the World". I'd say there is no way to objectively decide who this is going to be, so it will always be a subjective thing.

I just listened to some of her stuff. It's not terrible but it's got this fairly numbing generic feel. But that's just me. I listened to Tekashi and xxxtentaction for the first time last week. I didn't get them either.
