Well are you? I know the definitions of a leader are vague and sometimes arbitrary, but a few traits people throw around a lot are being personable, courageous, respectful, humble, generous, communicative, passionate, and decisive.

I don't think any one person can be all of those things, but usually you have most of those traits.

We all know about the military leaders of old like Napeoleon, but there are leaders in countless other areas of life, like sports. Basketball player Chris Paul comes to mind as someone who fits every one of those traits and has them in spades.

As for me, I want to be a leader, though I am an introvert and struggle with being a sociable leader basically. I would like to think I have everything else though. A leader is made, not born, so I work to better myself in these areas.

A psychopath is not inherently evil nor do they not live perfectly normal life's. Traits associated with them can and do make better leaders.

I might take on the role but only among people I feel comfortable and want to cooperate with.

Imagine for a moment you were stuck in a ditch somewhere in Iraq with ISIS rattling off their AK47's, wwould you rather have someone panicking or Andy Mcnab? Who doesn't have the same stress levels.

I've been a leader when the occasion called for it. I'm just as happy to follow. If someone wanted to be a leader? Be my guest. Just don't lead everyone off a cliff.

yeah in some scenarios I act as a leader

In sport especially Football I'm a leader and often captain for the team I play for, weather it be sunday league football or 5 a side competitive football

In my job as a manager, I lead teams as part of my role.

I am a leader and yes it is a learned set of behaviors and traits. I think one of the most important parts of leadership is knowing when to follow. I lead in my career. I also have held leadership positions at various times in the churches I attend. But you are right the older you get the better you will get it at It. I recommend looking up some of John Maxwell's books and audio CDs if you want to further your acumen regarding leadership. The Art of War is a good book as well for this topic.

I think I'm a bit too much of a pedant honestly. I also sometimes get impatient when I'm not getting my point across, but mostly because I can't seem to explain myself properly (this probably comes off wrong on the other people). Still, I usually try because man, some of the group projects I've had to do since starting uni haven't been pleasant when following some of the other people's advice.

When there's another person who want to lead and actually has good ideas and a knack for it, I'm all for letting them direct the orchestra though.

Paradoxically, I've always felt that the ability to lead when called to/needed to be yet still able and willing to take the lead of others when the situation warrants is a signature leadership trait.

People who constantly vie to be at the head of the pack are typically poor leaders for a long list of reasons.

@mattbbpl: Why thank you =) For me, taking leadership normally entails seeing people in need of assistance (in a variety of situations) and looking lost on what to do. Still, I prefer the "Can I help you?" approach rather than the "Step aside, I will save the day!". I'm not going around looking for damsels to save =P

Nah, I generally hate most of the people I interact with on a day to day basis.

I'd lead them off a cliff if they would let me though.

I don't believe a leader has to be sociable. There are different type of effective leadership styles. You can be sociable and charismatic or you can be a technical leader, someone who is respected because of your wealth of knowledge in the given career field.

That depends how you really look at a leader. If others follow, because you know the way out, but you don't care if they make it out, but just looking at finding it on your own. Does that count as a leader ? Lol .. Cause i am always looking out for myself first before others. Well loved ones first in a life & death situation, but only then do i care about leading anyone.

i'm a leader in the sense that colleagues and co students expect me to carry the torch in some manner, all the while failing to comprehend that i don't want the torch nor am i capable of leading anyone anywhere good

I'd say I'm more of a leader than a follower, I'm just a little too indecisive.

I am somewhat a of "lead" at my store's department, even if I technically don't have any power.
