So far all the mods I've seen post seem to take a Liberal stance lol. I haven't actually seen anyone here who is Conservative and commands still commands a lot of respect lol. No offense to any mods.

It seems when I get modded for something it's always because some liberal mod doesn't agree with the views I present, sadly enough. It's ALWAYS something I posted in OT. No offense to anyone, just feel its a bit unfair sometimes. :(

Mods don't mod you because they disagree with your opinion..

Maybe some do, but it's certainly not the mods on OT.

Pirate is conservative (not a mod though) and he seems to command some respect.

as for me I don't cling to one party out of loyalty, but right now all I see from Republicans (in congress on tv that is) is lies and arguments for short term political gain instead of trying to make the country they are in charge of any better. It baffles me how anybody can get behind that party right now.

They both lie, people like lies that support their view. Fortunately, economic law will expose just how stupid many westerners are or how they let ideology and emotions cloud their judgement.

there is some poll on here with responses in the hundreds that shows OT is mostly made up of liberals, but not overwhelmingly so.

My analysis is that a lot of the newer mods like myself tend to lend towards the liberal side of the political spectrum. However, several of the more long tenured mods lean conservative.

More length of time as a mod. And keep in mind, it isn't something that we spend a lot of time discussing so I don't know everyone's views for certain. Part of being able to function as a team is that on the private mod boards and in our conversations with each other, we don't tend to have a lot of debates on hot button issues. We instead talk about the things that impact Gamespot. We share advice on how to handle specific issues, or ask for opinions if we're uncertain about a specific moderation item or discuss how to set policy. ... Or any at all for that matter. We're a pretty varied bunch with a variety of viewpoints on a great many issues. The overriding important criteria with regards to the mods are: 1. Be a good user. Don't break the ToU and don't be a jerk to the community. This doesn't mean we leave our personality at the door. It means that we don't let it interfere with how we treat each other or let it interfere in how we post on the public boards. We (and certainly I) am not always perfect on this. But we have to be able to do it nearly all the time with a few slip ups here and there. 2. Don't let personal views interfere in how you deal with mod items in the queue. If you at all even suspect that you're letting bias enter in, then you should leave the report for another mod to review. I've done this before, like when I've seen people I consider to be friends in the queue. A lot of the rest of it is pretty much common sense. It can all be basically summarized up as: "Do your best to not be a jerk."

I'll make it quick since Lost is starting... On social issues I am quite liberal...For non-social issues (i.e. financials, etc.) I tend to lean conservatively. For local politicians, I tend to vote republican...For state, I go both ways...And for federal I tend to go democratic.

A Vast majority of people that post in political threads are Liberals. That goes for pretty much any post that has to do with anything about the Government and Politics.

This is game forum and most likely the mods are gamers and probably young, so its understandable they are likely to be liberal.. Im sure a few of them may not fit into that criteria.Reality kicks in when people age and then intends to balance out

So what are you then? Those 50 year old radical conservatives who post spam on Yahoo news blogs about how Obama is the devil and the socialist dems are turning our beautiful American society into one of those commie utopian societies?

Conservatives are just as ignorant as the other party.

Wow, I have no idea where that came from. Seems like you been frothing at the mouth for a while, waiting to let that one out whenever the opportunity arised.

You know what I am, a realist. sounds cliched, but its the truth. we are the humble people that realize we dont have all the answers and most importantly, we havent forgotten human behavior. Conservatives could learn a lesson about the human nature of greed and selfishness, but what about liberals? How come liberals dont understand the concept of the path of least resistance, people almost always will choose easy over hard and be lazy whenever they can.

You know, Western liberalism would be a lot more successful if they understood that and actually implement accountability and discipline, then maybe you wouldnt have massive debt and millions of slaves abusing the system.

You know, Western liberalism would be a lot more successful if they understood that and actually implement accountability and discipline, then maybe you wouldnt have massive debt and millions of slaves abusing the system.

By the way you sounded in your OP, it sounded like you were saying liberals are just thinking the way they do because they are young, but if they were right, they would think conservative.

Not that I don't agree with the other stuff you have pointed out there though. It's not just Western liberalism that should understand that though...It's probably all of the western culture.

*EDIT* Sorry, I just saw the leave the debate out of the thread thing. I wasnt looking for a debate BTW..Just wanted to clear some things out

I am a libertarian. I tend to be very VERY liberal on social issues, and very VERY conservative on economic issues. But I really don't like either of those terms.

I would like to argue and discuss more on a forum like this one, but there are a couple of issues with it really. The first one is that I spent the last few decades arguing politics on the net, from the late 80s in news groups until around 2006 when I finally dropped out of my last political discussion forum. Around 2000, I began to lose interest in those discussions -- they tend to be pointless, few people ever change their minds, etc. etc. It seemed futile after a while and now I just don't see the point. Even if I did regain that interest though, I just haven't had the energy to argue or discuss those things. Part of this is due to job responsibilities increasing at that time when I transferred to a new organization at my company, and being promoted since that time to an architectural role in 2007 has robbed me of most of my energy for discussion. When you are spending a good majority of your working hours in debates and arguments on technical issues with a bunch of arrogant software architects, it just wears you down.

The other reason though is a bit more banal. When I came to Gamespot years ago, I was already involved in political forums. I didn't come to Gamespot to find another forum to play the political gadfly role. I came to Gamespot to talk about games, write reviews about games, etc. Gamespot seemed like the least obvious place for political discussions to be frank. Hence I gravitated to GGD and the like and sort of stayed away from OT. It just didn't really ever occur to me to come into OT and argue politics beyond a few passive visits with some inserted commentary.

I did for a time post some politically themed blogs, but I've deleted most of those now.
