Well, i want to buy my girlfriend a Flute for Valentines day (and get a couple words engraved on it if possible). Anyway, i know NOTHING about flutes. and i want to spend.. less than £100.

So.. could anyone recommend me, or, ive my any advice about where and what kind of flute to buy for under £100.

And.. would you suggest buying it from Amazon is okay? or should i go to a proper music store?

Thanks very much

Sorry, I don't. All I know is that The Lonley Shephard is the best flute tune ever made.

I don't know flutes but I was in band... was a percussionist though, but I would probably try a proper music store first to get some ideas from them about what is the best brands and whatever and then check amazon's prices to compare between the two...

100 pounds is what... 150? 160 US dollars? I don't think that's enough to get one of those crappy instruments you see in Target or WalMart. It might be enough for the engraving.

Yes, I was going to say the same thing If I'm thinking what your thinking. Now, as far as to where you can get a flute I wouldn't know. I've only ever seen one.

I know the flute is a musical instrument that you blow.

I hope I was helpful in your quest

PM rubicscube, if nothing shows up in this thread. (:BiancaDK
:D

It'll be hard to get a good flute for that price. I mean, the flute I have now retails for over $1,000 and I got it on sale online...for just under $400, and that was a hell of a deal. Proper instruments are rather expensive, even if you find good deals.

I'll look around online and see if I can find anything for the price you've mentioned. If I find anything good, I'll get back to you.

EDIT: Actually, I need to get some information first...

-Does your girlfriend actually play the flute? If so, for how long? Does she already have a flute?

If she doesn't already have a flute, then it'll be easier because you can just get a cheap beginner flute. However, if she already has a flute and has been playing it for any length of time, it'll be a lot harder. Believe it or not, there are a LOT of different kinds of flutes out there...and every flutist has his/her own preferences. I wouldn't trust anyone else to buy me a flute, but then again I've been playing for 7 years or so and I'm rather particular about a few things.

thanks rubikscube. Nope she doesn't currently have a flute, so a beginners one will be fine. She won't notice the difference between nickel or silver plated ones and things so.. really just a beginners one (but full size and.. ya know.. looks the part). She used to play a little in school, but still a low level. Probs beginner-intermediate. I was looking at something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Odyssey-OFL100-Flute-Outfit/dp/B000SSECLM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1262781806&sr=8-1 What do you think?

All I know about flutes is that Jethro Tull made it a legitimate instrument for rock and roll.

I've never used an Odyssey flute, but I've heard good things about them from people over the years. I read about it and it sounds like a decent beginner's flute. I think it'd be perfectly fine. :)
