I just know, or think, that it's faster than wifi. If that's the case then why wouldn't it replace wifi?

It's Wi-Fi over the visible light spectrum. The big drawback is that it isn't able to penetrate walls. This is similar to the limitation that prevents 802.11 ad from being used for general purpose use.

Will it replace wi-fi? Unlikely. But it could supplement it for certain use cases.

Haven't scientists discovered how to store data in light? Clever fuckers.

@oi_oi_spanky: Sparked my interest. I read scientist developed a way to send data via neutrinos. Light information can't be sent thru solid rock but neutrinos go right thru making it technically faster than light. Never heard of LiFi I'll look it up later.

Here's a neutrino article http://www.livescience.com/19075-neutrino-particle-communications-message.html

@mattbbpl: Exactly! Light can't travel through walls but neutrinos can.

nice try to proof the existence of an non existeing particle ^^ amen

As the neutrinos pass through it, occasionally a neutrino will collide head-on with the nucleus of one of these atoms, creating other particles that are visible to the detector.

Microsoft recently purchased a ton of DNA for the purpose of data storage.

Heard of it. I think it's a cool idea, but I don't think it's going to go anywhere.
