Hey guys. I've been living in South America for a little over a year and recently decided that it's going to be more or less permanent, so I want my brother to ship my XBox 360 down here to me from the States. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it an absolutely awful idea? Am I better off just buying a new one down here (and consequently all new games)?

Thanks for any thoughts/advice/help/sarcasm.

I would go to Fedex and UPS, then calculate the shipping price online.

Wrap it in bubblewrap and box it.

So maybe I shouldn't be worried about it getting damaged? I guess with sufficient insurance coverage then I'd be okay either way.

I really don't know, but my guess would be around $100 USD, which is well worth it for me.

I live in Chile, which is the same region. I'm not worried about it anyway b/c it's cheaper to buy new games in the States and just have them shipped down here. Electronics in general are about twice as expensive in Chile.

So what are you doing down in South America, just out of curiosity?

Whoa!

If you plug that Xbox into the Chilean power supply without a transformer, the console will be toast!

:o

Refer to this handy table detailing the attributes of various countries' power supplies.

You'll notice that Chile delivers electricity at 220V, whereas the US uses only 120V.

That's a good point that I hadn't thought about. So I guess I have to buy one of those, too :(

I originally came down here to learn Spanish and travel. I started out teaching English, but once I decided that I wanted to stay I got a "real" job. I work for a big financial editing firm down here in a city called Viña del Mar. If anyone's ever thinking about traveling to SA during the summer months (Dec, Jan, Feb) this might be the best place. It's like the San Diego of South America.
