A Russian spetsnaz officer calls an air strike on himself.

For weeks he had been doing a reconnaissance job near Palmira spotting ISIS targets for precision air strikes. He was discovered by ISIS militants and surrounded. He died by calling an airstrike on himself.

His name was Sergey Chupov, an Afghanistan veteran and a commander of the 3rd platoon of the 4th storm trooper company of the 56th airborne division.

A truly crafty soldier would have called the airstrike a few feet further out.

That's a good way to die when compared to capture and torture. If it was dropped right on him, he probably didn't feel anything.
