It does not matter, whether it is mainstream/pop/hardcore/jazz/hipster/rock/alternative/rap/.

Any music genre from this past year, which left an impression on you.

Leave a couple of words on why you like the album(s) or just some info about the artist/band.

Real Estate : Days - 2011

This record has been on heavy rotation, at home, on my X10 . I reminds of Fleet Foxes, which also just released an album ( Helplessness Blues ) But Real Estate´s : Days is just a bit better though.

Real Estate are a rock band that doesn't rock, because rocking would be too unchill. Instead, they lilt, shimmer, and drift. More reverb and they'd drown; more pep and they'd soundtrack commercials. They have a singer, but it's the guitars -- part garage-surf, part music box -- that tie the sound together. Oh, and they play with some precision now -- lame, but it makes them believable. Real Estate's gift is that they either don't overthink their melodies or they can't, and the simplicity contrasts with their steady, dreamy atmospherics: instant nostalgia for an angst-free generation.

Cults - Cults- 2011

Cults is an indie pop band, light-hearted music, heavily 60´s influenced, great pop tunes - I really enjoy this album and their videos are great.

http://www.youtube.com/user/CultsVEVO#p/a/u/0/eAM9diyVRiM

OK the last album I will recommend is an album I had to choose between Björk´s : Biophillia ( alternative electronic ) - Little Dragon`s - Ritual Unions (electronical )

Kanye West and Jay Z : Watch the Throne - Little Wayne : The Carter IV - Jitta on the track ( Mixtape )

I chooseDrake´s new album :Take Care - 2011

The 3rd album ( 2 officially ) goes straight to my music heart - Probably the best record of the year IMO. I love it and it is on heavy rotation right now.

Call Drake what you want Emo/Hipster/rap - I call it amazing and it is my highest recommendation if you into this kind of music.

I haven't gotten some albums yet, but I guess I'll contribute one to the thread. If it stays all organized it could be a pretty sweet thread, even over the other 2011 music threads lately. I'll try to keep a similar format to OP and make the thread perty:

"Bruises" - Chimp Change
Punk, 2011

The band is from Alberta and it's their first full album release.
It's a relatively short album with 7 songs, which probably works to its advantage. The songs are all seem pretty great or solid. Basically a really enjoyable album if you like punk.

Where to buy:
- HMV carries and/or accepts it for order.
- Indie Pool (CD format)

- Band Camp (CD or digital download)
- iTunes (Digital download)

Right now I'm too lazy to post pictures so I'm just going to type names. My tastes vary but are mostly Hip Hop with a few exceptions.

Drake - Take Care

Lady Gaga - Born This Way

DJ Khaled - We The Best Forever

Tech 9 - All 6s and 7s

Snoop Dogg - Doggumentary

Jay-Z and Kanye West - Watch The Throne

Bad Meets Evil - Hell: The Sequel

Tha Carter 4 is alright but not nearly as good as Tha Carter 3 in my opinion.

Lately it has all been NME for me, but thanx for reminding me of Pitchfork. What about you ? Don´t you got any albums, that made an impression on you, this year.

@IcyToasters

Checked out Bruises" - Chimp Change - , sounds good but whenever I hear "new" Punk Rock I allways tend to go back to The Ramones. I just love the energy of that band - Joey´s singing and melodies, crazy Johnny and Dee Dee.

+ let me recommend this for you

The Jezabels - Prisoner

This is their debut album, and I know OT will hate them because they have a female lead singer, but I've been listening to it nonstop over the weekend. The music is a mix of indie rock/pop and the singer's style/voice reminds me of the great pop artists from the 90s.

Runner up: Apparat - The Devil's Walk

A track was most recently featured in Breaking Bad right before the infamous scene with Gus in the season finale. It's a nice ambient/electronic mix.

That's about it for new music, I think. The only other album I've listened to from 2011 is Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, and aside from a few tracks, it wasn't great.

I had Wavves before at some point, they're pretty good! I definitely need more surf punk / ska / etc. and noise music. C: thanks for the recommendation.

Bill Callahan - Apocalypse

St. Vincent - Strange Mercy

M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

Future Islands - On The Water

This year hasn't thrilled me tbh, lots of albums that upon first listen were pretty groovy just kind of slid away... not many have stuck with me from earlier in the year.

Civil Civic - Rules

Its just really good in your face electronic rock.

cc

Death In Vegas - Trans-Love Energies

Moody psychedelic rock. Didn't know much about the band before this release but I'm eager to hear their earlier stuff. The track Your Loft My Acid is looking to be my favorite track this year.

Teen Dream by Beach House

Both albums are absolutely amazing though Teen Dream is a 2010 album (and MY choice of best album of 2010)

I think

Bjork-Biophilia was hugely over looked which is incredible weird seeing how hyped this album was. And its really good.

Teeel-Amulet, fantastic 80's synth pop with space rock. Love this band, good record

Sepultura's "Kairos" was an exceptional album, especially after both Max and Igor Cavalera left the band. Runner-up would be "Unto the Locust" by Machine Head. Not nearly as absolutely godlike as "The Blackening" but up there.

Really awesome alternative rock album, even if it is mainstream. Saw these guys live in September on the tour supporting the album, and it's an experience I recommend to anyone. They sound great live, and Dave Grohl is really funny.

M83 is also on my playlist . the album Saturdays = Youth from 2008 - pretty good actually - and if you like M83 the you will probbábly like ( Justice - Justice ( cross ) from 2007 ) - They recently releasd a new album "Audio, Video, Disco"- 2011 but I haven´t checkded that album out yet.

Justice is a French electronic music duo

Bad As Me - Tom Waits

raven_squad

I also recently got the album. It is pretty good indeed. I always loved Tom Waits philosophy about music, being as "dirty" as possible thus making people understanding it.

EDIT: I am also looking forward to the David Lynch album. I´ve heard a couple of tracks on youtube and I really liked it.
