Jay-Z's 2001 album, The BluePrint, is home to a gem of a track called "Renegade". By far one of the most impressive songs from the album, it also features none other than Mr. Slim Shady himself, Eminem.

On the track, the Detroit emcee all but held his own against Jay, matching him bar for bar. Hip-hop enthusiasts have long argued that Em murked Jay on his own ****. Today is the day we put this discussion to rest.

I still think it was pretty even, Em a little better but not murdering Jay. Just because Nas said "Eminem murdered you on your own ****" on Ether everyone likes to jump all over that and act like it's truth.... but Nas is the same dude who said "compared to Beans you wack" talking about Jay too:?

Eminem raped him, and I used to think this before I heard Ether (but back then i used to be an Em stan and a Jay hater...so the bias out there is quite evident)

Either way, I still think Em destroyed him now (provided that the bias is gone).

I was a huge Jay-Z fan when I first heard it and though I thought Hov was good on it Em just completely killed it.

It was neck and neck to me, Em's flow was better than Jay's though. I don't understand why Eminem is so good on guest appearances but sounds like a kid shooting up a high school when doing a song by himself:|

I never thought much of it, but as I go back and listen to it now I realise Eminem killed him pretty damn good.

I'm totally with you. It's hard for me to get through an Eminem album, but I love when he drops verses on other songs even though it has not been much.

Even though I'm biased because Jay is one of my favourite rappers ever but he got BODIED on that song. Royce's verse destroyed both Em and Jay btw.

I really think that it was close. I mean I'll take Em over Jay on that, but not by much. Jays verses were excellent too, but Em just beats him by a little bit.

Eminem for me. He just had a better flow and put a lotta emotion into that joint. I'll hand it to Jay though for delivering a legit verse, he did spit some real talk. What's that one line LM always quotes? "What do you listen to music or skim through it" or something.

Have to say Em did outshine Jay on "Renegade" however I wouldn't say Jay got "murdered" cos his verse pretty good too.

I have to say, if you listen to the track you pretty much forget that it's Jay's to begin with the second Em puts his twist on it. As much as I don't like him as a solo emcee, he did a kick job. I won't say he murdered him. But he did take control of it.
