Brother Ali - 'Us' Discussion

I've been bumping this one consistently for the past week and I must say, hot damn. This is my third Brother Ali album I've listened to and this dude just keeps impressing me.

The production is sick as usual. Only a few weak links but no doubt it's consistent with Ali's standard. The lyrics are also sick as per usual and the dude is insanely personal, that's why I've come to love Ali though. He's not afraid to write about anything and I can dig that.

If I had to rate it right now, I'd go for a 9.0 / 10. It's no doubt one of my favorites this year right behind Only Built for Cuban Linx II, The Ecstatic, and Tongue N Cheek.

I hope you're all copping it. Hip Hop DX gave it 4.5 / 5. Then again, Hip Hop DX loves him...

definitely gonna check out this album now. Ant is a really good producer so i'm looking forward to hearing some of the beats on here

i'm not gonna say it's better than Shadows On The Sun but i'm on my first listen and it's definitely on the same level. go cop it and you won't be disappointed

Undisputed Truth was dope. Nowhere near as good as SOTS but still pretty damn good.

I ordered this along with the Cudi album. :oops: (Bit of an impulse buy.) I almost want it to arrive sooner than OBC4L.

Anyway I've listened to most of it online, though, and it sounds very nice. The production doesn't seem quite as varied as Undisputed Truth, though.

overall that song is better because the beat is nice and Freeway doesn't sound like a complete idiot in that one. if you want to compare Ali's verses though, then it's 10x better in Best At It. It's not even fair to compare, he completely murders it

so after listening to the album for a few days here's my top 3 songs from the album

1.  Tight Rope

the beginning of this song reminds me of an atmosphere track and that's what I love about it. Thank you Ant!

2.  Games

this track is a banger. Complete Fire! Ant cookes up another great beat 

3.  The Preacher

one word. Amazing

Those three songs are cool but my fave Bro Ali songs are the slower songs where he's just pouring his heart into it. See Rain Water, Dorian, or Picket Fence. I haven't heard the album yet, will soon, but those are the types of tracks I'm looking forward to. Hopefully the new album has a couple.

yeah I think you're going to like this album if you enjoy his slower songs because he has a good number of them on here.  I'm the complete opposite though, I much prefer his tracks where he's spittin' with that fast delivery. I still enjoy his slower songs like Forest Whitiker

You obviously don't "totally" agree with andy when he says that overall the Truth is a better song...

I was totally agreeing with how Ali's verse was 10x better

Then I went with my own thing...That's why I spaced it. To mark the beginning of me saying somtehing else about the song I preferred over the other song.
