IMHO, both Galaxy and 64 were better than TP and OoT because I had more fun and I played, beat, and conquered them (not galaxy yet, but I know I will) more than once.
This is the only reason TP isn't hailed as much as it should. It didn't bring alot of new things. It stuck with a formula that worked well and improved on it in almostevery single way. People who started the Zelda series with TP didn't know this and would have been blown away with it, alot more than with SMG. I know this because I started the Zelda series with TP. It ranks as my second best game of all time next to GTA SA. SMG wasn't any better than I expected. In fact its probably a little disappointing because of its ultra easy difficulty. I completed it with 120 stars in a week. I actually wasn't expecting alot from TP. It was surprisingly amazing.
OOT is hailed my many as the greatest game of all time. TP is basicly OOT but better in just about every single way. If OOT never existed TP would be hailed as the greatest game of all time and be killing mario galaxy in this poll right now.
Zelda TP not bringing in a whole bunch of new things was a positive to me, sometimes when a series try to do this it ends up with a bad result. Super Mario Sunshine could be one example, not saying it wasn't a great game, it just didn't have that classical feel.
As for Zelda vs Mario for Wii, both games are just too amazing to pick. I haven't quite finished Galaxy yet, but it truly does shape up to be one of the best games ever made.
Mario Galaxy. Just for pushing a new concept and actually being SUCESSFUL with it rather than just improving older concepts. Also the music in SMG is better.
