It would be awesome. I mean, a receiver that plugs into the back of the Wii as normal and a wireless sensor bar powered by some 2032s, or AAAs would be awesome.

You don't need a receiver in the back of the Wii: the Wii doesn't do anything to the sensor bar other than provide power to it.

Battery operated sensor bars are already being sold.

yes its possible, and yes, its already been done . and you dont need to connect anything to the wii.

you can cut the cable, run it through like a divider(through the ceiling) and right on top of your tv, my electronic guy did it for one guys theatre cause he didnt want the cable showing...if u wanna know the exact thing u need i can find out

The wire does nothing but provide power for the sensor bar. It is just an array of IR LEDs, all the information is sent via the controller, not the sensor bar. Either you can buy a wireless sensor bar, or just construct one with a few dollars worth of parts from Radioshack.
