So will you be getting it? I probably won't. Unless Nintendo stops supporting the DS/DSi and shifts all of their attention to their 3DS (which they probably won't), I'll be content :)

I never said that I want them to dump support for the DS. And basically I'm asking if you would buy the upcoming Nintendo handheld, which is the 3DS....scar-hawkwhich a hundred other people keep asking...we dont know, how is anyone meant to answer this question? wait till E3 then we will all actually be able to answer these threads but at the moment they just clog up forum space
I have to wait till E3 to decide. I want to know more about its hardware and "3D".
I hope the screens will be atleast as bright as a DSlite. The original GBA and DS didn't have bright enough screens, I don't feel like waiting a year for another model. :|
At some point for sure.
I just hope the current DS's future won't suffer too much after the release of the 3DS.scar-hawk
Given that the 3DS is confirmed to be the proper successor to the DS, and taking into account Nintendo's own history with their handhelds, they will probably continue to support it for a couple more years after the system is released.
I've got a couple of points to make...
Firstly, Nintendo is a business, the primary aim of a business is to derive profit. If it is profitable for them to continue making DS games, then they will. If not they will shift all focus to the next generation console.
Secondly, I will be buying a 3DS, I wasn't excited about it to begin with but after watching a video on youtube about new 3D software, it has a lot of promise. I come from the days when you put on those crappy glasses made of cardboard with a red lens on one side and a green on the other. So I wasn't too enthusiastic about 3D but now I definitely am.
And lastly, I probably won't be able to wait and will pick it up on launch day, but it is going to be so annoying being stuck with the first version of a console. Nintendo is going to produce improvements periodically just as they have done with the current generation of handhelds. I can't really afford to be upgrading it either.

They won't stop supporting it immediately, but it's death will start with the 3DS. I reckon it'll be the same as with the GBA, it'll still get supported for a while, but the new machine will be the main focus and after a year or so the only thing that'll come out for the DS will be kids movie-tie-ins. :-P
I'm almost definitely gonna get it, unless it looks really bad at E3 etc or is too expensive.
I want to actually wait until E3 and other news comes out, so we can actually see the thing in action and learn what good 3DS-exclusives will be coming out. I just want to make sure it isn't another Virtual Boy type of thing.
Not until the first hardware revision. Be it the 3DS Lite or XL :P
I just got the DSi XL to enjoy all the games on the big shiny screens. Im not making the same mistake ofbuying a nintendo handheld too soon after release again. Hardware ugrades were too frequent.
