Does the wii zapper really make call of duty better overall as a game or is it just fine without the wii zapper?

It's fine without it. It takes practice and patience to get use to it. I did not find it at that immersive to use the Wii Zapper.

Wii Zapper sucks. You spend 20 bucks to make the buttons harder to reach. Standard ftw.

It's preference. Basically, you'll find that most people who can't use the zapper for Call of Duty already played it beforehand without, however, I find that I can't use it without, it just makes aiming a lot more steadier with two hands, and it just feels, well, right, having a controller stuck in both hands for an FPS.

I use the Standard control scheme. The Wii Zapper is only good for On-Tail shooters. Infact I play Umbrella Chronicles better with it.

Oh, I still use the defult controller setting, just in the zapper itself. Trust me, it's just so comfortable, and it really is just that much more steadier for sniping.

As a side-note; Have any of you played CoD3 on Wii? Jeez, I bought that game expecting a CoDW@W kinda game, but it's just, well, nothing like it; graphics wise or controller wise. It's just a lot shabbier.

I would find that it would be easier for sniping than just to use your hand.

The Zapper is only good for rail shooters and Link's Crossbow Training.
