Anybody else think that wii sports boxing is really stupid? I know wii sports is really more of a demonstration of capabilities than a game, but all the other games seem to have pretty decent controls. I feel like in boxing no matter how you punch the wii just makes up the punch in the game (level 3 of the sports practice where you're hitting the trainer's pads is damn near impossible for me). The ducking and leaning works pretty well, but the punching just seems aweful.

I felt the same as you at first, but then I played more and started learning the ins and outs of it. Now I really enjoy boxing.

I find that after you get the hang of the controls, it's actually really great.Contender for oneof the best games on the wii, and easily the best one on wiisports. The other games wore out on me fast. You just have to find out what works and what doesn't. I was so addicted to the game for a while there

It is fun, especially with friends.
The controls work great for me.
But at the end of the day, Wii Sports IS just a collection of minigames to give you something to play as soon as you get the console out of the box.

It's pretty obvious that the controls are extremely hard with this game, so I don't know why everybody who responded is saying otherwise...I hardly ever play this because I can't control the punching.

I was thinking the same thing. If you dont like it, dont play it, but practice and you will get the hang of them.

Seems like every review I read agrees with me that boxing specifically has weak controls. And yes, I do suck at it, because I can't get the guy to fight the way I want him to, and if it's that hard to get him to do so, then the controls are off.

I'm at 1700 points and I stopped playing because the controls are unresponsive and it was getting frustrating

Now, victorious boxing looks greay

To punch you don't do the same motions. It's kind of annoying, but it's fine with me. Just give it flicks instead of actually punching, and also do it fast. Slow motions aren't going to be registered.

Which is why it's crap.

I thought the point of the Wii was that you're actually doing the motions that the character onscreen is doing? When I first got the Wii I boxed against some kid that had played it before... I'm swinging like crazy, throwing real punches and watching my Mii stand there doing nothing, and this fat lazy kid's standing there just flicking his wrists and beating the crap out of me. I hope someone makes a boxing game where you really box... otherwise you might as well just be pushing buttons.

I really don't see much problem with the controls. There's a rhythm to the punches. I can get a left or rightoff when I want. High or low. It's no Fight Night, sure, but for a free game it's gone above and beyond my expectations. I'm not saying they're perfect, but not as bad as some people are saying.

This is the reason why you may beleive it is unresponsive. As you increase in skillpoints in boxing, the enemy AI becomes harder, AND your motions become slightly more unresponsive with each point to make it more challeging. If you have very little skill points, and its still hard, you just suck.

The game is actually smarter than most of the players. The best Wii boxers are the ones who slow down their punches and allow the game to catch up. The less astute gamers just keep flailing their arms, which doesn't work. In my extensive experience with this game, it's usually only the non-gamer girls that have a hard time with the punch recognition. It's interesting that you have the same problem...

first of all, read the manual.

second. you can hit to the face, chest, and stomach. it depends on where you have your wiimote and nunchuck(low, medium, high) and also whether you swing side to side (hooks) or forward(jabs) or swing up(uppercuts).

Exactly! Like I said, there's a rhythm to it. If your throwing hard and fast, flailing like you've got issues, you're not going to be very succesful. You've got to watch the character. Let him draw his punch back before throwing the next one. It just takes some patience is all.As for the part about girls, it's kind of funny. My male friends have more problems because they play too aggressively (like I did when Iplayed the first time). Funny, really.

I loved Boxing from the get go. The controls are fine, just take some time to learn them. It did get boring playing by myself after I got 2000 exp, but I still play when I have friends over.

pretty sure i have the timing down... but sometimes when i do a straight jab with my right it will do just that, and sometimes it'll throw a haymaker to the body. I just don't get the punch placement.

It's not impossible, it's just something that has to be learned. Pay attention to the tutorials.

Although I do admit that it's very unintuitive, once it's learned, it's not so bad. Not better than any other button-based setup, but not really worse either.

As with any game, you have to master the controls to get the most out of it. I think the boxing game is great and I always get a satisfying workout from it.
