*All recommendation threads outside of this one will be locked*

Tips for quick answers:

1. Browse the lists below before asking a question. Who knows, you might find what you're looking for without having to wait for a response!

2. Browse Gamespot's list of Wii games. You can sort them by genre or review score. The main Wii page also has a handy "Most popular" section at the bottom. Clicking on the game's title will take you to its page, where you can read the review, watch gameplay videos, and see other helpful information.

3. If you still need to ask the advice of other Wii owners, be as specific as possible. Tell us what you're looking for and what kind of games you like. We'll try our best to suggest a game that you'll enjoy.

The Games*

*This is not meant to be a comprehensive list. If every game that everybody likes were on this list, it'd be huge. These are just a select few that should cover the majority of the best games. If you have suggestions about a game to add, PM me and tell me why it should be added.

If you're looking for Virtual Console games, check the Ultimate Virtual Console thread or ask in this thread. You can also check www.vc-reviews.com for a list and ratings of all VC games. VC recommendation threads outside of this one will also be locked.

If you're looking for Gamecube games, check the Gamecube recommendation thread in the Legacy forum.

Must-Haves (the Best of the Best)

If you don't have one of these games, there's a good chance you should buy it, because you'll probably like it. These are the most widely appealing Wii games, the best of the best:

1.Super Mario Galaxy- 3D Platformer

By perfectly combining gameplay elements from the 3D and 2D iterations of the Super Mario games, Mario Galaxy is a more-than-worthy sequel to Mario 64. Winner of Gamespot's Best Wii Game, Best Platformer, Best Artistic Graphics, and Game of Year 2007 Awards.

___________________________________________________________________________

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl- Quasi-3D brawler

Duke it out with all the big Nintendo characters in this simple to play yet difficult to master fighting game. Online multiplayer is available along with tons of unlockables to make for a long-lasting experience. Up to four players can play locally in several game modes. This game has something for everyone.

___________________________________________________________________________

3. Mario Kart Wii- Racing

Play as characters from the Mario universe in this weapons-based racer. Duke it out in races or battle mode with up to four local players or twelve players online. The game comes packed with one Wii Wheel that helps the motion controls feel much more natural, though you can use the remote+nunchuck, cIassic controller, or Gamecube controller as well.

The online features of MKWii are fairly robust for a Wii game, including tournaments, regular races, battle modes, leaderboards for time trials, and exchangeable ghosts

___________________________________________________________________________

4.The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess- Action/Adventure

Twilight Princess goes back to the more realistic art styIe of the N64's Ocarina of Time and manages to mostly keep pace with that cIassic. Link can turn into a wolf to take on the familiar mix of puzzles and action in the land of Hyrule.
___________________________________________________________________________

5.Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - First-person adventure

As the final installment in the Metroid Prime series, Corruption keeps the same formula as its Gamecube predecessors while updating the control scheme to one of the Wii's best.
___________________________________________________________________________

6.Super Paper Mario - 2D/3D platformer/Action RPG

Super Paper Mario is a unique mix of 2D and 3D platforming with RPG elements, such as talking to other characters, buying items, and leveling up. The battles are real-time and somewhat reminiscent of cIassic Mario action.
___________________________________________________________________________

7.Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - Third-person shooter/Survival horror

Although it's a Gamecube port, Resident Evil 4 is a worthy purchase because of its superior control scheme designed around the Wii controller. If you never owned this game for the Gamecube, it's worth checking out for the Wii.
___________________________________________________________________________

8.Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure - Point and click adventure

Zack and Wiki is a surprisingly good puzzle game. Don't let the cutesy graphics and quirky characters turn you away from this game's excellence; the puzzles are challenging and fun, even for adults. Winner of Gamespot's Best Adventure Game of 2007 Award.

9.No More Heroes - Action

Weird, Funny, and Violent is No More Heroes in 3 words. By the makers of Killer 7, you get to slice and dice opponents via Beam Katana on the way to be the best assassin out there leaving over-the-top, almost to the point of being comical, fountains of blood in your wake. Gameplay is so satisfying that you'll forget that it's a little on the simple side. And if you're looking for styIe this game oozes it. Story may seem straight forward at first but all the characters are so unique you'll be begging to see the next cutscene. Although the overworld is a bit lacking and the graphics not top notch, it's easy to overlook with everything else in the game. And there's enough extras to unlock to keep you busy for at least 2 playthroughs. (submitted by Shogun_Master)

Party Games

The Wii is known to be the life of the party. At the end of the night, it's usually the one with a lampshade on its head while everyone else is passed out with sore arms. There are a lot of terrible party games on the Wii. These are some of the ones worth checking out:

1.WarioWare: Smooth Moves

This collection of insanely quirky but fun microgames makes great use of the Wii remote's motion capabilities. Some multiplayer modes support up to 12 players, so it's a great game for a living room full of friends.

___________________________________________________________________________

2.Rayman Raving Rabbids (and Raving Rabbids 2)

(Description needed. PM me if you want to submit yours. Make it short!)

___________________________________________________________________________

3.Mario Party 8

Mario Party is a virtual board game with playable minigames at the end of each turn. Up to four players can compete to earn the most stars before the game ends.

___________________________________________________________________________

4.Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz

Super Monkey Ball is a platformer game where you must tilt and flick the wiimote to help get the monkeys to the end of the stage. Don't take this game too lightly, it can get pretty difficult later on. Also includes minigames, some only requiring one wiimote. Returning minigames from the series include Monkey Race, Monkey Bowling, Monkey Wars and Monkey Target. Other games include Dangerous Route, where you must guide your monkey to the finish without falling, Whack-a-Mole, where you use the Wiimote to hit moles, and Alien Attack, where you must attack aliens. Online Multiplayer Games

There aren't very many of them, but the Wii games that offer online gameplay are listed below:

1.Medal of Honor Heroes 2

The online mode of this World War II first-person shooter allows up to 32 players at once. EA Nation provides leaderboards, lobbies and a friend-codeless account. Multiplayer modes include deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the flag. Connection quality is generally lag free. Offline multiplayer is not available. Winner of Gamespot's Most Surprisingly Good Game and Most Improved Sequel of 2007 Awards.

___________________________________________________________________________

2.Guitar Hero 3

Although friend codes need to be exchanged to play against your friends, you can play any random person online by creating your own match or joining an existing one. Face-off, pro-face off, and battle modes are available against random people in ranked mode, while co-op is only available for those on your friends list or in unranked mode. Connection quality is generally perfect. Winner of Gamespot's Best Licensed Music of 2007 Award.

___________________________________________________________________________

3.Mario Strikers Charged

The multiplayer matches make use of Domination mode alongside Nintendo's much-touted inaugural online console offering free online; play friendly and ranked matches with or without your friends. (submitted by Ojisst)

___________________________________________________________________________

4.Battalion Wars 2

Battalion Wars 2 allows you to command an entire army consisting of troops, tanks, ships, and planes. There is no offline multiplayer, but it has online. You can play against a friend (friend codes need to be exchanged) or against a stranger in 3 different modes. The first is co-op -- you and your team mate must work together to complete missons. Then there is assualt mode, where you either attack or defend a base; if you have succeeded in taking over or defending the base once the time runs out, you win! The last mode is skirmish -- there is a time limit and whoever has the most points at the end wins. Battalion Wars 2 is a great sequel to the original, and it has good online. (submitted by alexh_99)

___________________________________________________________________________

5. Endless Ocean

Dive with your friends by exchanging game-specific friend codes in this unique underwater exploration game. You might want to read the full review for all of the info on this one. Some people will love it. Some people will think that the lack of harpoons excludes it from the videogame canon completely.

___________________________________________________________________________

6.Madden 08

(Description needed. PM me if you want to submit yours. Make it short!)

___________________________________________________________________________

7.FIFA 08

(Description needed. PM me if you want to submit yours. Make it short!)

Other online titles:
Pokemon Battle Revolution
NBA Live 08
Nitrobike
Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

___________________________________________________________________________

Other

These are good games that don't fit into any of the categories above. They aren't as widely appealing as the must-haves, but they're high-quality and worth a look:

1. Okami - Action/adventure

Okami for the Wii is a fantastic adventure game based on Japanese Mythology. The brightly colored worlds and enticing story really bring you into the game. Okami lasts approximately 30+ hours on story-driven gameplay alone, plus enough extras to last about twice as long. There are varying RPG elements such as the ability to upgrade health and ink capacity as the game goes on; but when it comes down to it, Okami is an adventure game in the vein of Zelda. If you are looking for an epic adventure on the Wii, Okami is the game to get. (submitted by Phantom5800)

2.Trauma Center: Second Opinion (or its sequel, New Blood)

Use the Wii remote's pointer to take control of a futuristic surgeon as he operates. Each operation is a combination of action and puzzle elements, and some can be quite difficult. The short episodes make this game perfect for shorter play sessions. Both titles are of roughly the same quality.

___________________________________________________________________________

3.Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicle - On-rails shooter

This light-gun-esque shooter retells the Resident Evil story from the beginning in short episodes. The first-person perspective moves through the levels on its own while you point your cursor to shoot at pretty much everything. Lots of action, lots of things to unlock... Umbrella Chronicles supports two players and the Wii Zapper.

This is still a work in progress. Any design suggestions are welcome, such as organization or colors or whatever. I still need to add short descriptions to the rest of them and come up with some organization for the "other" games.

I'd appreciate if you PM any feedback rather than post it here. Thanks!

Maybe if you added a screen shot or 2 of each game and rank them in an order for people to get first. Add comments(if you haven't played the game get another user to make a comment), add a virtual console list, gamecube MUST HAVES, and accessories if possible.

Hello,

I just got a Wii and now I'm looking for a good first game idea. I have Wii sports (of course) and I also have Wii Play. But I'm looking for one good game to get started with, I don't want to buy a ton of games at first (I prefer to buy one every few weeks).

I am trying to decide between something like Super Mario Galaxy or something that would get more people involved, ideally four. It seems like a lot of the games that are made for groups, i.e. Carnival Games, don't get the best reviews.

I also want something that is going to be fun to play for a while and won't get too boring and/or be solved in a short amount of time.

I'm looking for something that will appeal to mostly adults. We are all huge mario fans, but I'm not sure if there are any games that include a Mario type game, but would allow more than one player (not really interested in Mario Party).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks!

i suggest Super Mario Galaxy. even though its only 2 player, you can still take turns playing and watch while someones playing. its a really fun game, and will keep you busy. later on, you could get guitar hero 3 which is a great party game for when you have friends over or family around

The above games in the party section are all good choices. If you get a kick out of obscure, over-the-top Japanese humour, go with Warioware. It's really weird and really funny, and it'll have you doing all sorts of crazy, stupid gestures.

Oh, by the way Jordan, great job. This'll shut those "what game should I get" threads up right quick.

Here's a better picture for Guitar Hero 3, your current one is kind of lacking.

I have Super Mario Galaxy, Twiilight Princess, And VC-Paper Mario(I beat that about 4-6 times already.) I have 1,000 points left. What should I get? I love the Zelda series, I love the Mario series, and I sort of like racing. Note that I already beat SM64.OoT,and Mario kart 64.

You should check out the Wii virtual console Union.Thebest releases are anounced every Monday. Yougot plenty of choices there. Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble is one of the recent releases worth looking at.

You need recommendations for VC games. You do have a link to the ultimate VC thread but that thread still doesn't recommend games. And you're a good man to put Zack and Wiki in the most own, the game is awesome. :)

Edit: You also might want to have a black list of games you should not get. It could be helpful to some.

Thanks for the pic, bob. The one I used was the GS one.... I was going to make fun of the blurriness in the description ("this is what this game looks like on an HDTV!"), but now I don't have to.

Review scores are a big NO. People should click on the link to a game out of interest, not because of a review score. Some of the scores are quite low, but the games can still be fun for a lot of people. Some people wouldn't even consider Bwii because of its score. The games I've listed are ones that I know to be widely appealing and fun for most people.

Adding pros and cons would be a helpful addition, though, since it would further stimulate interest.

I left out VC games, Gamecube games, hardware and accessories simply because that's more work than I can do. And I wanted this thread to be compact and easy to scan; the more stuff I add, the harder it becomes to quickly find the Wii game you want.

Zack and Wiki, RE:4, and The legend of Zelda Twilight Princess are some good choices. I never tried the zapper, but if you do get it, get Ghost Squad. Its a real fun game, but its kinda short, but has a lot of replay value and great multiplayer.

Are we able to ask recommendations for VC games? I am looking for some good VC games. I am trying to decide between Sin and Punishment (I don't know much about it) and The Legend of Zelda OoT (I've rented it a long time ago, never beat it though). Any help is appreciated.

Are we able to ask recommendations for VC games? I am looking for some good VC games. I am trying to decide between Sin and Punishment (I don't know much about it) and The Legend of Zelda OoT (I've rented it a long time ago, never beat it though). Any help is appreciated.Jakendo

Yeah, you can ask. I'm just not going to put VC titles in the main list.

I'd say get Ocarina of Time. It's arguably the best game of all time, so you should beat it at some point. Sin and Punishment is also a really fun game, but it really doesn't compare to Ocarina.

Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3

Mario Strikers Charged

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

or

Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution (I know it doesn't have online but still)

Hey guys, I'm going to try to get a Wii within in the next couple of days and I was wondering, what are some good games for 20 bucks or less? Thanks in advance! ;)solardestructon

Anything on the Virtual Console cause that's all you'll get for under $20

Sin and Punishment for the N64 is an awesome rail shooter. It's difficult, but not like.. Ikaruga difficult.

You can't go wrong with Star Fox 64, either.

Hey Jordan, on the description of Guitar Hero 3.

You CAN play co-op with strangers online. You just need to put the settings to unranked.

Those are two completely different games...

It really depends which genre you are more into. I would probably say RE4, since it is cheaper and would probably last longer. But if you are looking for a wii game that uses a lot of the features of the wiii remote, get Zack and Wiki.

MoH:H2 is an addicting online game. The campaign is short, but all I play is the online. The zapper is kinda a love it or hate it thing... Sorry, I haven't tried the zapper so I can't help much.

ok im debating between a couple games

GH3- i want this beause its definatly fun but hard at first but i know practice will make it better. but the bad thing is the price, its $90

MLB power pros- i hear this game is very fun and great. but im not a HUGE baseball fan.

FIFA 08- i love soccer but i maybe i should just wait when the price drops till like $20 or $30 bucks

Zach and Wiki- i hear this game is awesome! but i have no clue whats its about and i dont really like puzzle games

What game should i get?

As a Guitar Hero fanboy id say get it. You can check my page if you want a review.

As for Power Pros. Im not too much of a baseball fan either, it is pretty fun but I was underwhelmed with it.

I cant say anything about the last to games since I have never played either.

GH3 is a fun game, but yes its expensive. The online is good and it has a lot of good songs.

I havent played MLB Power Pros, but i think its for hardcore baseball fans, so it might not be your thing.

Fifa 08 is an okay game, its not really that great. I would suggest waiting for other soccer games like the new pro evolution game coming out for the Wii.

Zack and Wiki is all about solving how to get to a treasure chest (which has parts of a pirate, who you have to rebuild kind of ). It is a puzzle game, but its a point and click game. Basically when you get to a situation it does not tell you how to use the controller, you must think LOGICALLY how you would use the item you have in a real life situation and mimick it with the controller, which works very well. If your not a big puzzle fan this might not be for you, but it sure is fun and its priced cheap.

hope that helps. Personally i would get either GH3 or Z&W -- Im not a big baseball fan so MLB Power Pros would not interest me and ive experienced Fifa 08 and would not buy that game.

Mabe Fire Emblem: Radient Dawn anyone agree?I think it was a great game. Despite lack of graphics and cutscenes its gameplay was great Gamespot people gave it a bad reveiw but I did a test I loaned it to a friend who was a first time Fire Emblem player and they loved it.
